Schwinn 100 Photos

Photos from the epic Schwinn 100 MTB race last weekend

by BIKEmagic

Last weekend's Schwinn 100 was an epic. The weather, while not the worst that Wales can offer, was pretty terrible and driving rain made the going tough when the 1200 hit the hills around Builth Wells. Local lad, and Schwinn teamster Ryan Bevis led from the start (leaving these marks on the bumper of the pace car!) and sped round the challenging course in a frankly preposterous 3:39:03; Be-One/Powerbar rider Carl Sturgeon took second overall in 3:43:28; and Summit Cycles Paul Newnham finished in an impressive 3:46:41 to take third. The winner's efforts are put into perspective when you consider that a great number of, mostly fit, people spend eight, bum-numbing hours in the saddle. BIKEmagic's Cullen Ward finished in 6:47:20.

If you want to see the results we've broken them down into three groups: Women's, Men's (part 1), and Men's (part 2).

BIKEmagic's own Robin and Tom braved the conditions and took the best part of a thousand rider photos. While we had hoped to bring a photo of every competitor the weather made it impossible. The main problem encountered was that people's race numbers were washed off by the torrential rain. We've managed to identify over 700 people, if you're not among them we can only apologise. To use the search enter your race number in the search box and hit the button...

Number 1550 your picture appears with mine. Type 1556!
Posted: 04/09/2001 14:31

A big apology of your picture isn't included. Robin and Tom worked tirelessly but, as anyone who took part will testify, conditions weren't exactly ideal for taking pictures. My number, let lone my mind, was completely blank by the time I reached the top of the moor.
Posted: 04/09/2001 14:47

I've got 2 pic's! (no. 1000) but I'm sharing one of them with someone else, can't make out his number though because its blurred. He was obviously overtaking me! I look more knackered on the first one (about 30-40K) than the one near the finish. Can't think why?
Posted: 04/09/2001 15:53

If you are sharing a photo - and it's possible to make it out - then it should appear in the other person's search too. Just to make that clear if it wasn't. Try searching under their number and if it doesn't appear then it's worth a message as above.

Top forum too. Busy?
Posted: 04/09/2001 16:15

be nice to have a set of thumbnails of all the prints - give me something to do on a friday afternoon.
Posted: 04/09/2001 16:20

Can you just post the number of all the female particpants please?
Posted: 04/09/2001 16:48

How about dumping all the unidentified pictures somewhere, so that those unlucky ones who don't have a picture can see if they can find themselves?
Posted: 04/09/2001 16:52

Nice to see you waited til I was knackered and covered in crap.
Posted: 04/09/2001 16:59

Number Jeff?
Posted: 04/09/2001 17:00

Even though I,m not featured in the gallery of shame, I would like to thank the Bike Magic photographers for the excellent shots. Bringing back all those painful memories that I have been blocking out since Sunday. Well done!
Posted: 04/09/2001 17:28

As Jeff appears to have gone all shy, his number was 267 (it was him that made me ride the bloody race!).
Posted: 04/09/2001 17:35

I`m not shy, just been out my bike ha ha. Gearing myself up for the Flintshire challenge - Another 50 miles of our finest Welsh Countryside and HILLS HILLS HILLS. You up for it Steve. Sunday 14th October, thats a few weeks to prepare.
Posted: 04/09/2001 18:12

BTH entry forms can be downloaded from www.flintshire.gov.uk before you all ask.
Posted: 04/09/2001 18:14

Cracking day out, only spoilt by those twats who left food wrappers along the trail, bet that saved you all a couple of seconds.
Posted: 04/09/2001 19:48

Ermm for those people who asked for all those thumbnails for a boring friday afternoon, well there's over 800 of them, I think closer to a 1000 I can't remember the exact numbers however if I get a chance to I'm going to produce a page that puts 20 or so on and you can just page through them. That'll be one long long friday afternoon better spent in the forum interacting with people well more interactiing than just looking at'em ugly mugs anyway.
Posted: 04/09/2001 19:55

Lookin' good Jeff. I know that expression, 'eff off I'm tired' if I'm not mistaken!
Posted: 04/09/2001 20:01

FAM Tired is an understatement, absolutely bloody knackered is more like it. I would still do it again though.
Posted: 04/09/2001 20:29

Tell you waht Jef you do it again and we'll take piccies of you when you're not tired ;)
Posted: 04/09/2001 20:36

What a top ride. I was completely knackered on Monday though. Anyone know when the Team results are out.
Posted: 04/09/2001 20:45

I`ll take you up on that next year Robin. And if you can catch me smiling at any point on the course I will buy the beer. That could be expensive eh.
Posted: 04/09/2001 20:46

i'm looking for pics which might have 828,829,830 or 831 in them, even if they're blurred, appreciate it
Posted: 04/09/2001 20:51

Hmmm doesn't look good did you cycle around all together or were you just particularly unlucky that we didn't seem to catch you. I'll have another look for you tonight John, but it really doesn't look hopeful if I didn't manage to work out what your number was last time I'm unlikely to be able to pick it out this time. We did miss some people, if you're one of them I can only apologise for this. We did the best we could given the conditions.
Posted: 04/09/2001 20:55

Well done on the pics guys. Anyone who stood out in that rain taking pictures must be more insane than those of us riding. You managed to capture all the members of team Fudmuckers so big thumbs up.
Posted: 04/09/2001 21:15

Having looked at somemore of the pics I've realised just how insane the whole idea was, I was too numb during and after for it to sink in. And only two weeks to go till the Hell Of the North Cotswolds - another 100km of who knows what :-)
Posted: 04/09/2001 21:42

I loved it so much i did 2 laps

My mate "The flower" talked me into doing the race,he didn`t turn up.During the race, and for the next day he was not at the top of my list of favourite people. But now thanks mate,i`m really pleased i`ve done it. Oh and you haven`t.
Posted: 04/09/2001 22:42

John, if you give me some more details I'll try and find some piccies of you, finishing time and kinda clothes no promises though. We're also hoping to get a browse up that you can find rough times for each photo so you can browse for yourself.

Great course, lovely weather. Very tiring and difficult-but that just makes it more fun! I'm definatly up for it next year. Anay chance of anybody finding my photo, my number was 901 and I finished in 5 hours 58, it was very hard to read though (I was wearing a blue and purple nike top riding a Marin FRS), cheers!
Posted: 05/09/2001 18:52

Matthew - you can go to the related article at the top of this thread and from there you should be able to search for your number. I had a quick look and you're in there somewhere amongst about five other riders.

Posted: 10/09/2001 12:19

Not sure yet, it's something that I'm thinking about how we're going to do. But at the moment I'm really busy trying to sort out the site and make sure all those final little bugs are removed. Will try and sort it out at some point in the not too distant future though
