Team Midland 24 Hour Trackathon kicks off at Calshot for Children in Need, complete with Bikemagic "assistance"

It's Children in Need time again, with many people doing strange things in aid of the BBC's annual charitython. Some of them involve bicycles, including the Team Midland 24 Hour Pudsey Trackathon. The event involves quite a lot of riders taking turns to carry a small teddy bear around Calshot velodrome, with the Pudsey-carrying rider being supported by a bunch of team-mates to keep the pace up.

As well as the organising Team Midland, there'll be riders from Birmingham CC , Chippenham Wheelers, Bournemouth Arrow ,Poole Wheelers, New Forest CC, Red Kite Cycles and special guests Team Magnus Maximus from Sweden. Plus Bikemagic editor Mike, who'll be trying not to slow down the NFCC team too much.

In 2008, the collected riders carried Pudsey 560 miles and raised £7,500, a pair of pretty impressive totals. This year the goal is to beat both of those numbers. Well, we say "beat", organiser Graham Hewson prefers "crush".

More details (and the all-important donating bit) at www.justgiving.com/tmpudsey24hr. And if you're involved with, or know of, any other bike-related Children in Need shenanigans, post them in the forum below...

Best wishes on the attempt Mike,it may well prove you ride and own a bike.

I don't own a track bike And the hire one I'm using is a size too small. Still, all in a good cause. We've done our team's first one-hour stint, 24.5 miles added to the total. Overall the participants are currently 10 miles up on the 560 mile target, so it's looking good...

I'm assuming that his silence means he was beaten by the one eyed bear.

One of my colleagues was riding this, I guess I better stump up some cash.

Hello The massed ranks of riders managed 589 miles, comfortably ahead of the 560 mile target. That's an average speed of 24.6mph. It was ace. I want to do it again
