Six-day mountain bike stage race in Ireland
CelticXtreme is a multi-stage adventure mountain bike race taking place in South West Ireland on 6-11 June.
Racing will take place over six marathon stages from the North Ballyhoura mountains to Sneem on the Atlantic coast of Kerry. Starting on the purpose built singletrack of Ballyhoura the continuous race route links a wide range of trails and natural terrain from open mountain side to forestry tracks & rough bog roads.
The route is 425km long and features an eye-watering 12,000 metres of climbing!
Participants can compete solo or in teams. Find out more at www.celticxtreme.com
Just had a look at the site www.celticxtreme.com - it's 12000 metres of climbing!
If you want really eye watering check how much it costs to enter... I'd be interested in finding out more about the route though, I'm 50 mins from the Ballyhouras where I know the trails, but have only seen a few of the trails in Kerry, which are fun, but mostly illegal and don't know of any trails that link the places mentioned through off road means. Way too hardcore on distance for me anyway...
Think it works out at £73 per day for the basic entry & £65.70 if you get the group/club discount - cheaper than an irish marathon! & they seem to do a bit more work in a day!
