What do I do if an offer I receive seems suspicious?

The vast majority of transactions on the secondhand section are trouble-free, however, fraudsters are attracted to secondhand online sales. One common approach is that a fraudster offers to buy your gear, but the transaction is unusually complicated, often requiring you to return a substantial amount of money to the buyer. Something along the the following lines is clearly a scam:

"I  will arrange for the shipper that will be coming for the pick up. I  will instruct my client to procure a cheque of £1,150 and send it to you to make this transaction fast and to avoid time wasting. As soon as you received the cheque you will send the excess funds  £1,000 to the  shipping company through western union money transfer..."

If you think someone is trying to perpetrate a scam then forward the email to editor@bikemagic.com so we can take appropriate action and don't enter into a deal with the buyer.

As a general rule, if something seems too good to be true then it probably is.

When using the secondhand section it can help to look at the member page of the potential buyer / seller to get a feel for their dealings with other members and general activity around the site to judge how trustworthy they are.
