Do I need to be a member to use the forums? You don't need to be a member to browse the forums, but you do need to be a member to post your own messages or contact other forum users through the site. You can join the site here and it only takes a couple of minutes.
Return to Top How are the forums organised? The forums are divided up into several folders: Beginners, Maintenance, MTB, Road & touring, Soap box, Rides and Kit.
You can access the forum folders either through each site section (eg. 'kit' in the gear section and 'maintenance' in the know-how section) or by using the 'Forums' tab in the main nav bar at the top of all pages.
You can also view posts from all folders as a whole by using the 'Latest posts' link in the sort bar at the top of the forum. Return to Top Can I view all forum posts together rather than browsing by topic? Yes, you can view posts from all folders as a whole by using the 'Latest posts' link in the sort bar at the top of the forum. This shows you threads from across all folders in the order in which they were lasted poted on.Return to Top How do I edit or delete one of my posts? In order to preserve the integrity of the forum we currently don't allow members to edit or delete their posts. However, we are considering allowing time-limited editing in the future.
If you have posted something ill-considered and would prefer to have it removed then please use the 'report this thread to the moderator' link a the end of the thread. Return to Top How do I alert Bikemagic to an offensive thread or post? Most BM members understand the need to follow a forum code of conduct for the good of the whole community. Unfortunately, occasionally some members may break the code of conduct and post offensive or abusive messages. If you see a post or thread that you think may need removing, please use the 'report this thread to the moderator' link at the end of the thread and let us know where the problem is.Return to Top How do I turn off email notifications for new postings? Email alerts for forum replies work on two levels: There is a default option, that you can set to 'off' or 'on', (Response notification on 'My forum' page) and there is a thread option below the box where you post a message, (E-mail notification when response is made?).
Having two levels enables you to overide your default, whether that's on or off, for individual threads.
If you are receiving replies on a thread and you don't want to receive them, then you need to post on the thread again, making sure to uncheck the "E-mail notification when response is made?" below the text box.
If you want to make sure that you receive no replies on other threads, then you need to change your default setting on the 'My forum' page.
Changing the default setting will not prevent you receiving emails for a thread for which you're already receiving them, you need to post again with the "E-mail notification when response is made?" below the text box UNTICKED to stop these notifications.
The two layered system is so that you can generally receive no alerts on forum threads, but opt to receive alerts for a thread that you are particularly interested in following. Return to Top |
