Well done Niel, great article, great work, brilliant ride, and fantastic determination. Good on you mate.

Thanks Dave - hardest ride I've ever done!

Very impressive - on a rigid 29er, too....

I found the rigid 29er works well on the SDW, it's not really a technical ride and sections with roots/rocks are a rarity. Suspension would have been nice on some of the descents though, and I doubt if I'd have ridden out a badger strike (like Ian Butler did!).

Well done, but on a rigid bike? I did the SDW one way in a day (The Big Red Randonnee) on a rigid bike and it was that event that made me buy a full susser. Anyway, congrats, mucho respect. You do know that you are mad though, don't you?

T'aint me that's mad, Trembler...it's the others, I tell you! And respect to you for completing it rigid! Be interested to hear how it compares on 'suss if you do it again. BTW, someone on the MaXx Exposure ride this year did it on a drop-bar cyclocrosser...eighty miles, in the dark, with drop bars, rigid forks and skinny tyres anyone?
