Impressive, not only has Jose Gonzalez engineered a new suspension platform which will revitalize Trek, but also has time to produce a critically acclaimed album too.

And why have they introduced an 18.5" size, that's just annoying for the dealers that have to stock another bloody size!

The 18.5 is a perfect size 10 if you see what I mean. Not so much a "heres another size for you", more "Heres that size you really wanted..." The old 17 was too small for your average male due to the short head tube and kinked top tube, and the next size up (19/20?) was just too long in the cockpit... nothing was quite right. Anyway, I had the chance for a burn on the new EX8.0 in the US recently. A few thoughts....

1. I still hate the pricing difference between the US and UK - The ex8.0 I rode was $2100 (Down from $2400 in a pre-labor day sale)... you do the maths. And yes thats reduced before you can even buy it in the UK!

2. The spec, finish and new rocker are all awesome. The whole rear axle thing looks quite trustworthy too.

3. Worryingly, big hits would cause an annoying gear shift. Possibly bad cable routing? I don't know what it was as I have to admit I wasn't paying an enormous amount of attention (I had Arizonan mountain ranges to worry about) but it was fantastically annoying. Its not the end of the world I guess, but it stopped me buying one.. even at that price.

Saw them yesterday, and yes, they are a big step forward. That new Evo Link is super stiff, and with the the Active Braking Pivot and Full Floater platform, I reckon they will surprise a few folk.

Should have our EX8 Demo soon available thro  and I think I'll make it an 18.5" - could be a useful new size. Can't wait to give it a blast round Kielder!

Does look very nice,   sure wish I could get it at USA prices though,  just sickening

Need to look at 1 up close,  don't understand how the active brake pivot works,  or it just a pivot in a brake friendly place ??

Sorry, I thought I should mention that the bike rules otherwise. The EX 8.0 was a great looking and riding bike, I just think that the cable routing needs sorting.

wow i havent heard the word "ace" used in that context for about 15 years.  Old skool!

People keep talking about how moving pivots a few mm can't make any difference, when referring to Horst link vs "faux-bar" even though it changes the chainstay length through the stroke. Is moving the seatstay pivot on a faux-bar to the same position as the axle going to make much difference to braking?

Actually, it should make a difference in this case, as the brake will be attached to the seat stay not the chainstay.

Had a look at one in the LBS looks nice,  and the rear Pivot is around the rear Axle,  which I guess is better for performance under braking,  still thinking on though.

Amazing, a Trek I'd actually consider owning.  Whatever next?

My prejudice is based on the opinion that if Ned Flanders owned an MTB, it would be a Trek...
