Nice ride, I like them a lot. If and when I am in the market for an all mountain beast this would be at the top of my list right now.

"...of course, dust isn't hard to clean off..."

Made me a bit green with envy: I spent about an hour in the freezing cold scraping filth off my Cove before my GF would let me put it back in her car. Roll on summer!!!

Sorry Kell - I didn't intend to rub it in. It's pretty grotty out in California right now as well if that helps (although this pic was taken in November...) Sorry, did I do it again?

Karlos - the '08 FXR is more expensive (they reworked the top tube) but there are still '07 frames available if you look around a bit. I can't praise them highly enough!

They could have put a bigger shock on that frame.....

;o)

If you think THAT'S big, check out the air shock on the DHS for this year...

I wouldn't have believed how much difference a low ratio shock could make if I hadn't tried it myself but I'm a complete convert to them now (2 Foes already and another on the way).

Perhaps for 2009 they could do a 1:1 Ratio because you're right - the current shocks just aren't massive enough

I also really like the 4" travel jobby, can't remember the model name but it's very pretty.

has anyone tried designing a shock that replaces the top tube???

You mean the XCT-4? It's a gorgeous bike but I'm 'on the heavy side' *ahem* so went for the longer travel, harder riding option. I got the 4X as well for hooning around on and it's great fun. but doesn't get used anywhere near as much as the FXR.

Ummm... not sure about anyone replacing the whole toptube but I remember Slingshot had no downtube... that was strange. I think it might be Focus bikes who've got an XC full sus with the rear shock hidden in the top tube. Pretty sure it's Focus. Could be wrong.

"has anyone tried designing a shock that replaces the top tube???"

Just imagine the pain: you're keeping low to the frame, and you catch your bits in between one of those big springs... The horror!

Having ridden a DHS 2.1, i'd be happy to ride any of the Foes 2.1 range, they really are unbelievable to ride. Ride her well Hamish

I noticed that FOES are offering Fox DHX air's on some of their 2008 bikes

How does that work then? Have Fox made some custom 2:1 ration shocks for them?

Show/hide user stats
I think they make a custom eye to eye but it has a shorter stroke so it doesn't work like a 2:1...i think anyway. Why anyone would buy a Foes and put anything but a curnett shock on is beyond me!

My 1998 Heckler runs a 2:1 ratio

I want the 2008 FXR with a tit coil!

Wouldn't that mean it'd have less travel though, if it had less stroke? hhmmm...but yeah I agree Curnutt shock kind of makes a FOES a FOES!

Dunno, seen it done before though, think it was a 5th coil and an old van rc.

I don't usually like the look of bikes with big coil shocks, but this is an exception.

If I hadn't plumped for a discounted Yeti, the Foes XCT (?) frame would have been top of my list for a trail bike. The engineering looks to be in a different class.

I also had a brief daydream about living in California after reading that dust comment. Not helpful!

I've spotted an FXR on the Chain Reaction website that comes with a Fox Shock. I had assumed it was a cost cutting exercise by them but seeing the '08 Foes site I guess not.

The great thing with the curnutt shocks is that they are built (as long as you don't buy a bike 'off the shelf') for the rider which is why they work so damn well. I'd never consider riding anything other than the Curnutt shocks on a Foes - they're designed to work together. And they do. Very well.

I guess the Fox option could be to try and lessen the pain of the price increase for this year. I'm very glad they're offering the air shocks on all the bikes as well.

Sorry Chaka. I'll think more carefully before I drop dusty trail comments into posts in the future

How could it possibly be? It was stolen in the US of A! (of course it is)
