Seems a strange looking bike for a carbon frame. It's almost like they're building it as if it were made from Alu. It's not making the most of carbon fibre's qualities imho, fugly.

shortest distance between 2 points? straight line
smallest circumference for a given radius? a circle

using straight carbon tubes, it's one way to make it as light as possible.

i still don't like the headtube arrangement though

Why oh why do they have to mix the kit - if your over half way putting XTR on the thing, then XTR it all.

Mass production and price point perhaps Surly?

I've read a few reviews of this bike and the G2 family in general and I don't see the attraction TBH.  A flexy, squirmy bike with 120mm travel at each end, that's as light as fook AND has 'Fiat Punto Girly Button' steering?  It'd be like riding an eel.

Taking a wider viewpoint, I'd say that most people who buy a decent bike and ride it in the real world would need something that is a bit more of an all rounder.  I think the niche marketing of bikes is just an attempt to get people to buy a bike for all seasons - which most of us don't really need.

I just don't like the look of it - reminds me of my neighbour's anti-theft (shitty) Apolo commuter.

i found the bike suprisingly enjoyable i have to say. it is light and prone to flex, but if you change your riding style a little you can coax plenty of speed out of it. my only grumble are the seat stays, which bulge out at just the area your heel arcs through - kinda annoying

Apparently a mix of parts between the two groupsets is lighter, but I can't be arsed to go and research it on weight weenies.
