What is going on with these funky step down head tubes?

I can understand the benefit (or perceived benefit, I've never had any stiffness issues with revelations)  of putting one on an xc bike. But why the hell on Freeride bikes? What possible benefit is there in shrinking the available weld area beside saving maybe 100grams from a 36lb bike? Not to mention stopping anyone from using proper 1.5 single forks, or is that the whole point?

i might have to make some space in my spare room for that Stumpjumper HT. very very nice...

I really think that's the idea John. Manitou started the 1.5 thing and now Fox seem to be really pushing the E2 "well we like 1.5 but we didn't think of it" motion. Just like with the 20mm bolt through. Not their idea so they come out with the new 15mm 'standard'

That S-Works stumpjumper is one of the nicest looking hardtails I've seen in a very long time. I think frame only is the way to go to avoid those Specialized forks though.

Oooh... singlespeed that would weigh nothing...

Is Spesh on a mission to try a new shock position every year? The Epic looks superb, it's gonna cost a packet methinks.

Very nice new range! Makes my 04 s-works epic look quite dated now!

The S-Works Epic is £4500 for a whole bike, which is only £500 up on last year, not too bad. It'll have Avid Juicy Ultimate Mag SL brakes, XTR group and Rovale Controle SL wheels.

There's no word on a frameset price, I reckon it may be £3000 including the chainset.

I personally can't wait

£3000 for fuselage?

That's a serious amount of money. I can get a Stork for less than that!

It is bloomin' gorgeous though.

Storck frame, fork, headset, chainset, front mech and seat post. It's not too bad a deal all things considered.

It's a guess, based on the fact the Stumpjumper ones are £2500 and the Epics have to include the chainset and the price increases and a 'new thing tax'.

It makes the built bike very good value, I imagine I shall get one of those and eBay the wheels and the bits I don't want.

so much travel i loved my old 4 inch travel sx it was a perfect combination of burliness and xc capability.dont know why they put the sx at 7 inches when they got the big hit as well.im sure theres a market for a 4-5 inch burly xc bike that most of us need for todays mtb centers

The Big Hit is possibly the most horrid bike I think I have ever seen.
