Ring ring ... ring ring ...

"Hi, this is 2002, we'd like our bike back"

Seriously, this is news?  I guess the interesting thing is that 6 years back I told Brant his bike's head angle was too steep and I wanted a slacker fork, and he told me I was talking rubbish and should be happy with a filling-dislodging rigid piece of steel.  Didn't take him that long to see sense, but isn't this really a Dialled Bikes Alpine?

Well according to the on one website, the 456 is so named because itr can run 4, 5 or 6 inch travel forks, this has a slacker head angle in order to run shorter forks, so surely it is no longer a 456?

It will still happily run 6in forks if you want to have a 65deg head angle (which we're quite liking to be honest).

It's been a bit odd for us XC Jeyboys to start thinking slacker is better for some things, I'll admit

It's called a 456 Summer Season as it is an evolution of the 456, and I wouldn't want anyone to confuse it with our other shorter-travel-fork frames... as it's quite different really.

>isn't this really a Dialled Bikes Alpine?

I don't think so - you do?

So the compromise bike is now even more of a compromise.

For a cheap frame i would buy one suited to the fork i was running rather than one that is 'ok' in 4, 5 or 6" modes.  If it did the job well at 4" there wouldnt be the call for this new one, would there?

TLH - We offer a variety of frames to give people a variety of different choices in terms of geometry and ride.

There's a lot of difference in ride between a 456 with a 4in fork and our standard inbred geometry with a 4in fork. Maybe not difference that everyone will notice, but certainly enough for us to think it's worthwhile.

The 456 (standard and summer season) has a larger diameter top tube, increasing front end stiffness and strength. This helps keep the front end pointing in the right direction when you're hitting things hard and fast.

It's got a steeper seat angle, so that given the same saddle position on the seatpost, it'll put you a little further forward than a standard inbred (though in reality isn't a lot different to just "sliding your saddle forward").

And this model is designed to give a much slower, stable, high speed bomber type ride, than the more eager-puppy type ride of the standard 456.

Thank goodness for choice - whether that's within a brand, or a choice of brands!

Agree with all of the above Brant.

Not meaning to be having a go.

Brant...whilst you're here...What are the chances of sending out a few builds to dealers around the country Bristol, Wales, London, Manchester or something stock 18" LX type build nowt' fancy just so people who don't know people who own one or know what 65.5° gibblegrommit and 24" topspar grommit means to the ride of a bike can have a ride before they stump up cash?

I can't do frames for £125 if we're going through dealers, let alone dealers that want to carry demo bikes...

I quite understand what you're getting at, and it is a kind of flaw in our business model, but one I'm prepared to live with if we *CAN* offer people £125 frames (which at the end of the day are floggable if you don't get on with them).

Put it another way - I'm trying to buy some new riding shoes - and the shoes I'm getting pointed towards cost nearly as much as this frame!!

Its seems that their is certainly a market for bikes that suits a type of fork, some people love really long travel forks that are builit proof and allow you to ride like a lunatic, they may have a full sus at home but want to ride in the same style without the weight and like the fact that a slightly boring trail on a full sus becomes an Alpine style fly by the seat of your pants trail on a hardtail.

At the cost that On one offer their frames at, and if i had a 160mm set of forks on a full sus i would definatly buy one and just swap forks around, As these are really the most expensive parts that most people have on their bikes it makes sense to use them on more then one frame if possible.

PLus i think this is real news, On one have a great reputation for the inbreds and everyone likes a new bike, at their frame costs you can get a new one every year!

no no not through dealers...I just meant like 4 demo bikes around the country fulls top not dealerships etc...I know it's only £125 but it's still a sizeable chunk of cash to order and wait and wait and wait for a frame you might not like

That should have read the compromise bike is LESS of a compromise.  I typed that out earlier but deleted it cos i didnt want to harp on about it

I like it. Differentiation by geometry rather than travel is the way forward. £125? 'kinell.
I've got my summer season sitting in my room waiting to be built up Gotta wait for tomorows pay-cheque before i can buy the new Revelations. Can't wait to give it a blast, looks fecking gorgeous.

Since I got my first on one I bully everyone who says anything about getting a HT into at least trying one of mine as they are so fapping good for the money!

Any chance of something a bit more DH / aggro coming out?  I had a dick about on a mates BFe that was a touch small for me and it seemed more eager to hop things than my (standard) 456.  I do love the 456 but obviously it is a little comprimised as a DH bike as it has to have the angles to go back up again.....  sorry is those ramblings seen nonsensical!

Mine is awaiting the bleeding postie with my cranks, mechs and shifters (Wife doesn't need to know about XTR stuff before it arrives, does she?). Seems my local poncy parks will be exciting once again very soon

Kris, get it muddy and say it's all second hand
I paid for my new forks, brakes shifters and headset this morning, the bike should be built very soon!
