Is there much other riding thereabouts to make this worth a trip down to from the Midlands?

Dartmoor, Exmoor, Quantocks, Divert down the M50 to Ross and take in Cwm Carn take your pick

Dartmoor is well worth some time, plenty of quality singeltrack if you start around North Bovey or Postbridge

Yeah for sure, I live 10mins from woodbury common which also has awesome XC riding, Dartmoor is brilliant but you have to invent...and sometimes do a little bog hopping (not fun in winter)
