Longer-legged Anthem means more changes than just another 10mm of travel

I tested one also, but did find it rather 'small' for its sizing - and had to use my own 400mm seatpost on it.

Ultimately it was too near my XTC hardtail in ride, but a very good bike all the same.

Fair comment. I definitely needed an L in this, while I'm happy on Ms from some brands.

good review except for a few notes;

firstly the anthem doesn't use an intergrated headset.  seeing as it has headset cups that sit inside the frame this is actually called an "internal headset"

secondly the trance x frame does not have 120mm of travel in fact it has 127mm hence why it has 5.0 on the seat tube.  127mm/5.0 inches geddit??

thirdly the trance x frame is 5.6lbs and the anthem x is 5.1lbs (medium) so that makes it 1/2lbs difference not 1lbs as you stated.

ask giant they will tell you all you need to know.

i could go on but choose to "step away from the keypad"  lol

ask giant they will tell you all you need to know.

From Giant:

- HEADSET: Integrated 1 1/8” sealed cartridge bearing with composite spacers and top cap

TRANCE X 5.93 / 2690.00

ANTHEM X 5.09 / 2310.00

I guess you could argue that 0.84lb doesn't count as "nearly a pound", but you'd be wrong.

I'll give you the 7mm though. Don't use them all at once ;-)

spoken with someone at giant and they admit there catalogue misprinted the headsets and in fact they use a "semi-integrated.. ie internal ie low stack" headsets  on all but a few mtn bikes.  not the stated integrated headset.

i also have a trance x frame.. as does another staff member here.  another staffer has an anthem frame aswell.  we have all concured that they use semi integrated/internal headsets.  if you look at the close up in this review you will actually see the silver cup sitting flush with the frame.  you can also check wikipedia for an in depth account on which is which.

also most in the know will also know that chris king has finally made an internal/semi integrated headset that giant have been using for their pro racers who ride the anthem with said headsets.

http://chrisking.com/headsets/hds_inset

this picture on his site shows said anthem with his chris king "inset" ( another name for semi- integrated/ internal of even low stack headset.  not "integrated" as you have stated.

also i have weighed my 2009 medium trance x frame when it arrived at the shop and the weight scale showed 2.5446 kilos or 5.61 lbs in old money.   not  5.93 as you stated.  these are all based on medium frames with rear hangers and shock.

the 2009 anthem x medium frame wieghed in at what you have stated.. so you got that right.

i have been selling giant bikes for some years now and have replaced hundreds of headsets in my time.  please in future admit when you have got it wrong and move on from it.

also i will enjoy my extra 7mm from the 120mm you have stated.  i need all the extra mm i can get !!!  lol

either way keep up the good work...  your reviews are generally very good and true!!!!

lol and WOW - Probably the most anal poster i have ever seen on BM.

I feel so out done, even picking Garmin up on the definition of the nautical mile pales into insignificance compared with the above.

#hands over site picky pedant cap to Russ#

Giant are one of the few companies that quote weight within a country mile of reality, please don't encourage them to pick a number and remove 15% like most.
