..it does look very long and sort of "high" at the toptube...

I did think that too, but that is a Small pictured so it's probably more compact looking than a medium or large might be

and the pivot position is very active with the length of those links

40lbs is very average for a DH bike, anything under is pretty lightweight for a big bike.

I've never been a fan of Marin's bikes, theres no reasoning behind that, I've just never looked at one and thought  "I want that".

Wont it look even taller in a larger size? I agree with JJ there is just something about Marin bikes in general that makes me not want one - which is a bit shallow im sure they are good bikes - its not going to tempt anyone away from a v10 or a session 88 though is it?

"One of the key aspects of 3D is that it lets us put a real premium on aesthetics"

Not enough of a premium for you guys by the sound of it

"This prototype is the third physical prototype version in three years and the seventh iteration in Inventor...The reason why we decided to show it at the event even though it is still a prototype is beacause the next version will only be slightly different - it is mechanically sound and ready for production. It may just need some aesthetic changes made"

So there is hope!

Nice.  Always liked marins

saw a green small quake at Coedy - looked bloody awesome, and marin actually do make bikes in small sizes so hopefully this wont be just for the tall guys.
