Or you could spend 15-20 quid on a proper tool from Flooks et al ....?

You could, yes. Depends how often you find you need to do it

I've been using the vice & socket method for ages & it works fine (& for any size of bushing).

Yes I use that method myself, or rather I let Dylan and Andy Monty do it whilst I stood aside and drank beer. It seemed to work just fine even on a little camping table and with a mini vice.

Even topper Tip

You dont need to replace them, Ive had an FSR which eats bush's and all I do is mark up the position theyare in prior to removing them

Remove them rotate bush [and top hats/spacers ] through 90 degrees re-fit and hey presto another 6 months of wear.

I also popped into a friends engineering works and had him turn an aluminium bush remover. Might get some more made and sell em at a lot less than the £20 most places are charging. Be on Dragons den next

I bought such a tool off ebay where a chap had done just that.

Possibly something else to mention would be to orientate the split in the bushing away from the direction of shock travel to prolong life just that bit more?

And not a Brick in sight

My first 1 couldn't work out how to press it out so I used my pen knife,  cut a slice into it then I was able to bend it in on itself and remove it,  new Betd Hula pressed in easy and job done

Abit of a scarey bodge mind as you don't want to damage the shocks body well to much as it had a few scratchs!!
