 LOL at Alan.

Been out with them a few times now and yes the light beam isn't the very apogee of luminescence, but its fine off road on high beam and I've only found it falling short at high speed on the road. Low beam I've only used on the road in street lit areas as its only any use for being seen rather that seeing.
I think that's not too bad considering the considerable advantages of weight, ease of use and durability.
|
 |
Durability? You've only had them a couple of weeks and done but a few rides?
|
 |
LOL at the "Everything off" picture in the article - I assume that is a bit of a joke?!!
|
 |
That's the "control". It's for real, it's not just a black rectangle I made in Photoshop ;-)

 |
Did any body else read the review of them in MBUK aparently both of the USE exposure lights suplied to MBUK died during testing due to dicky switches

Nice looking lights. Shame they are not half the price, as they'd be a great commuter system, with small size, good runtime and no bulbs to fail.
HIDs are great offroad, but are too bright on the road, and most don't have a low enough setting to avoid dazzling traffic in street lit areas, or the sort of runtime the enduro version has. I love a system that lasts all week on one charge.
I'm sure in time, there will be a commuter specific system offering similar features at a more reasonable price as the SLEDs will inevitably fall in price as will Li-ion batteries. In the meantime I'll stick with my HIDs with a cayeye for the urban sections.

 |
Drivers never worried about dazzling me with their full beam headlights, so I have no problem with using my HID on the road.
Besides they are no brighter than a car's headlight. You don't see them strapping on a 2.4W micro halogen when there is other traffic about.
As long as you're not a complete git, use it on low beam and aim it largely at the ground, they will have no grounds for complaint.
Also my commute is (mercifully) quite short, so I get nearly three weeks out of one charge. Yeah.
Still if someone comes up with a decent SLED spot it could be good for a helmet mount, what with no wires to try and strangle you!

Watch this space ;-)

Cool, while we're at it can we get Fox to put Terralogic and TALAS in the same fork?
|
 |
JD - what I meant by durability was battery life and bulb life
|
 |
Made the right choice, sticking to HID's then, especially with a Switch Issue which is affecting some units.
|
 |
Thanx for the sensible review - there's been a lot of blarney posted about these lights. If the switch issue is just a glitch then I may be tempted to invest in some.

Mountainled Lights Kick Ass.
You gents want to check out the new Mountanled lights. Cheaper than the Solid Lights and you get 2 of the 9Watt units!! Me and my mate bought a set after the recent reviews in Future Mags. Cool in a square sort of way, bright as well. Battery life v.good. www.mountainled.com
Check it out

if you want LED then the best system currently (he he) is the Nightlightning Endurenz.

Your wish is my command - i spoke to them gave them some ideas and they have now just released the TALAS XTT = Talas = inertia Valve (terralogic).
Voila. Dont mention it

You can't beat carbide lights :)

The new Turbo version is much brighter still. Incredible brightness and duration from such a small light
I have Exposure Turbo on my bars and a joystick on my helmet, more than enough light for anything off road at speed
Durations quoted are accurate. Have used both in a cave now, with success. The joystick makes a nice little backup torch. Have also used it in the dark skiing.
Took a few charges to get them up to full duration and to work out the wierd charging indicators
06 versions pretty weatherproofed (not waterproof). All in all a very small and compact package putting out a lot of light for a long time. OK not as bright as HIDs etc but 1/4 of the weight and bulk and more than bright enough. after all you only need to see the bunnies, not cook em at 30m
Glad I got them
