now that's the kinda thing i'm after!

a stoutly built bike, which i'm hoping would be usable for other duties if it were loaded up with new bars, stem & post...

hmm

also, can "4x" bikes be used for xc? like, there's the santa cruz blur 4x, or the 'dale prophet 4x, both of which are overbuilt - what's the geometry like on these then?

You can do XC on anything Mike!. I ride XC on my BMX when I'm feeling exuberant. Pete should have bought this off the shelf rather than building up the On-One.

My KHS frame is 24" compatible, tempting.
