 a few queries though
high, yet planted? surely they don't go together?
and you say it has bizarre geometry, yet it still gets 4/5?
this sounds like a bike to be tried!

Everything gets 4/5 or above. You must know that. I would be happier with an out of 10 score to give a fairer representation.

that bike looks gorgeous ! i want it
|

Doesn't the chain slap about with chain stays so high? Looks kind of odd but fun tho.
Be fun to compare it to this year's SX which I just happen to have one of. I think it's a bit more than 36lbs tho or maybe I'm just getting old...

That rear looks a bit strange to me. Definitely not one for the tarts...

__________.jpg) god that's ugly
|
 |
Must admit I rather like that ( except the price tag ) serious amounts of Function over Form going on, which I approve of.
Ugly yes, but purposeful :)
|
 |
 Very ugly thought.
It'd have to be very very purposeful.
|
 |
I'm a very ugly person, finally a bike nearly as ugly as me :)
Deck it out with Sram attack and Deore running kit, that'd be a baby.
|
 |
you say it has bizarre geometry
No I don't. I say it has idiosyncratic geometry, which isn't necessarily bad. Depends what you want to do with it, and things like how tall you are.
As for scores, there are pros and cons to ever y way of doing it. We're going with out-of-5 right now because that's what the whole member review system uses, and it seems a bit unfair to expect everyone else to mark out of 5 and then give ourselves 10 to play with. Plus which marks out of 10 give a lot of scope for hedging - can't decide if something's 6 or 8? Give it 7. Marks out of five at least force your hand.

"that bike looks gorgeous ! i want it"
It's probably a lot of things - individual, purposeful, original - but gorgeous it ain't! If ever a bike fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down, it's this one.
I realise it's done to incorporate the suspension design in a form follows function way so at least it has an excuse to look like Frankencycles Monster though.
|
 |
How about marking out of 5 for each use, say XC, Enduro/Marathon, Freeride, Downhill.
Or you could split your marks between Comfort, Pedal Efficiancy, Stabillity etc.
It's what the Belgium Magazine I read does and I find it works quite nicely.

its white, its big, its a bit industrial its totally charming!

please be aware that the official importer of Chumba into the UK is Freeborn Bikes (www.freeborn.co.uk), not Sorted Cycles

I favour a form of reviewing i call Binary reviews: You either give it a 1 or a 0
1 = good 0 = rubbish
Only something with a 1 is worthy of your cash

Just thought I should clear things up re Rob Cole comment above.
At the moment there are three UK importers / dealers for Chumba.
sorted cycles freeborn and FLi Distribution - who's direct retail site is www.mtb-direct.co.uk
as of the 1st of March FLi will be exclusive UK importers for Chumba and will be setting up a dealer network, that its hoped Freeborn and Sorted will be part of.

It looks more like a stool than a frame... . . . .Oh and it also looks like a stool sample!
|
 |
Rob Cole's link clearly supports Col's point :-) The test frame came from Sorted, which is why the review has their contact details on it.
