HID's be gone pretty much!!!

David the Joystick rideable on it's own for most of the time or not ??

Any idea how much a spare battery is to take the runtime upto 6hours ??  Average ride being 4-5hours,  sure I could use the ride setting on the climbs though to be enough.

Oh yer the joystick is rideable for most of the time on the high setting  with the piggyback, i just used the enduro maxx for fast downhill sections of the South Downs.

Still not a match for my Edison yet... but not far off now, another few years and everyone will be on LEDs.

I've been on LED's soley for over a year,  and I had a HID previously, couldn't trust the bitch where as I have total faith in my LED's strangely and they've never let me down yet.

But the Lupine Betty is. Beats the Edison pretty handsomely apparently.  Still butt ugly tho with the hassle of battery packs and wires.  That's really where the Exposure's win through.  Decent enough light, in a light-weight self contained unit.

2x Exposures maxx will be more power than the Edison and on par price wise and more powerful than Betty

Agreed Luke,  and if one fails you can keep riding as there independant,  you can also set the beams to slightly different locations, ie 1 further out.

Odds on them both dying,  in with a stack are low.

I mount my lights on the bars,  upside down underneath the bars to,  so you don't take them in your tummy when you go over the bars,  less odds on damaging to.

What was that light you lent Mick for the Puffer the other year Dylan?

If I order another 3 of my e-bay 180Lumen lights I'll have more power than you,  £40 posted with more batterys,  Tempting

Rule of Diminishing Returns so won't look much brighter than 300lumens when your eyes adapt to it,  but your mates with 300lumens won't see shit all night

L&M Vega,  4watt @100lumens,  2 years in and the batterys is toast and it's sealed to so got to send it back so likely won't bother   £120 but hey

Hence my multiple cheap disposable lights with easy to charge and replace batterys these days.

OK, now I know what 100lumens is.

1/10th the power of the bettys

If your on your own and its pitch black  ( not the twilight area ),  it's enough,  you ride with someone with a HID and it looks like candle power.

I rode all last year with a L1 80lumens and the Vega is 2watt mode,  so 130total!!

I don't like to slow down too much at night though

Just looking at the various SLED lights and Hope have some also.  The burn times are very poor though.  I like to have a safety net of around an hour over what the ride should take.  Some of these lights don't even run for two hours.

Also it would be nice to have a burn time for 50% low/ 50% high setting, it's doubtful that anyone will use them on the low setting for the whole ride unless they're commuting.

The Hope LED's old ones, where useable on Medium power to double the run time, saving the full power for DH ish bits, but the range is abit limited to much of a flood so not really a high speed light as things will creep up on you, rather quickly

Low's only useable for trail side repairs or slow fire road grinds.

1hour 45mins aren't they on high, so 1:45 on Medium with 52.5 Mins on high, you'll need the 2 battery pack.

They've got longer run time, 500 Lumes ( those are 300Lumen ) ones out real soon though for £300.

I won't recommend my 150-180 LED's torches as you'll want Bling no doubt

The Exposure MaXx lights run for 3 hrs on full, you can combine a piggyback battery adding another 3 hrs.  3hrs on MaXx (10hrs on 'ride') is pretty good in my book especially with the option of running piggyback batteries which will double the run times.

Or am i being naive?  Personally i would quite like some hands on with the various SLED lights before i pays my money.  But certainly the hype seems to be all in favour of SLED.

Edit: You could get the 3 cell piggyback and extend the MaXx burn time to 12 hours ....long enough?

I'll likely replace my L1 soon, with a Joystick Maxx and 1 Cell so 6hour run time,  my Cree 4watts torches 1 on either side will become backup and DH use only pretty much,  as the Joystick Maxx will be enough to run on easily I'd bet.
