Surely the price should be £899-99 like last year?

If it is £999-99, we're getting less for our money - last year's model had a stronger/stiffer Hone chainset, not a cheapy Deore one!

Is it more because they know it'll sell out again????

"Is it more because they know it'll sell out again????"

That and the fact that everything's getting more expensive for next year

Yep all bikes are costing more for next year.

Similar bikes like the Rockhopper Pro have gone from £850 to £1000, Scott are the worst, theirs are going up >20%.

How about the Sworks carbon stumpy HT frame/forks - £2,500 for '09!!

All costs are going up to suppliers and they have had to pass the increases on to the consumer.  I know that distributors were holding prices while costs went up but it got to a point where it just wasn't possible to shield the market any longer.

The 2008 was a 725 frame, although it wasn't exactly the same as the iO frame - it had some extra cable guides.

And no v-brake bosses.

That's the only frame they're offering Nobby, all other S-Works models are bike only, no more Stumpie, Epic or Enduro frames!

£4500 for a complete bike, makes the frames seem even more of a rip off! You don't even get the chainset on the HT, can't see them selling many!

I know - it's outrageous.  I reckon it could backfire & hit their stumpy/epic/enduro sales too unless people can be bothered to buy the bikes then strip half the kit off & fleabay it.

The other manufacturers all still seem to offer top end framesets across the range but it may encourage people down the Turner, Ellsworth, Cove, Yeti, Intense etc route?

Sales are likely down of bikes too,  so the economy of scale also means more expensive   Alu's more expensive,   Euro and USD exchange rates just took a slapping,  good job I'm not in the market for a new bike really

we are all always in the market for a new bike, we just don't always realise we are

You would think that wouldn't you Dylan but sales of bikes are still strong.

I know a few folk that have recently invested - they may only be hybrids but they're getting used in place of a car and will likely lead to more biking & more purchases )for two of 'em at least).

Decisions driven by economics rather than social conscience but as long as it gets more people on bikes & less cars on the road it must be a good thing.

I have to agree with you Nobby.  It may not be for the reasons we would like but more people on bikes for whatever the reason is positive IMO.
