well it's a lot less f*cking ugly now at least!

if i had the cash and was looking for a slightly nutty xc machine i'd definately look into this.

Oh dear credibility of Maverick forks compromised by putting them on quite possibly one of the most unwieldy singletrack unfriendly bikes I have ever had the displeasure of saddling up on!!!

A bit harsh - but I am sure I'll get a response!!

I had the pleasure of checking out a set of Maverick forks - What a set up - 4-6 inches of travel, triple clamp and under 4Lbs including hub - Absolutely fantastic piece of kit.

I doubt you've ridden one of these, Ian, there's only one of them. And I suspect that the habits of Whytes that you dislike are down to the idiosyncratic Plus Four fork which the 46 doesn't have...

Hmmnm, like the tara but no stops. Isn't slippage a problem...

Wonder what they'll do for £2000

Wouldnt it make more sense to just have a single shock mount and a Talas rear shock..?

Then again I havnt seen it yet so my opinion counts for nowt.

Sounds like the Maverick forks will be hard to get hold of as it is. With another manufacturer specing them OEM, its going to be even harder.

MIke,
Nice juxtaposition of the "only one in the world cutting edge Whyte" and the "only surviving pair in the world, prehistoric Shimano SPD shoes!"

do they still smell of cat pee when they're wet or does that diminish after a decade?

Thankfully the shoes are nothing to do with me ;-)

Dave, apparently the shock mount doesn't slip because the adjuster slot is shaped to put the loads mostly perpendicular to it so there's nothing to make it slip. But obviously time will tell on that one...

"Hmmnm, like the tara but no stops. Isn't slippage a problem..."

I suspect it'll probably live in the six inch setting most of the time anyway :-)

DIdn't seem to slow John down on the incredibly knadgery singeltrack at the Bristol 12 a month or so ago. He was flying, and his team managed to win the group effort too (mostly due to the efforts of my mate Nouveau and NAtional Champ winner, whatever his name was, though John's no slouch). Looked a bit agricultural in the way of Whyte bikes, but as John says, he doesn't make bikes so they look good but so they work well.

I don't think my PRST-4 is ugly.

You just have to learn how to ride it properly Ian. Stop swinging off the bars like a monkey.

It's a great bike

The paintjob is a bit furry if that picture is anything to go by. Must be a nightmare to clean.

Well I rode it at the Bristol 10, and I loved it.

I normally ride (well, when I actually ride at all) a Santa-Cruz superlight, or a HT. This bike accelerated comparibly well (spv shock?), and you could just ride over rocks, people, cars and the like.

I've I had the money, I'd have one, although I can see why it wouldn't be the best bike for twisty singletrack, it wouldn't be the worst, and for epic rides, I think it would be one of the best there is.

From rift zone to whyte 46? I reckon I should be given one to test. If it rides as effeciently as the quad is supposed to, if the mav forks are as good as reported, only 27lbs sounds like a revolution! Plse let Mr Whyte know I am available to test for him immediatly!

SIMON mountain bike knutters rule, drink guiness after ever ride when you get home you well only remember how good your were!

Can't find any more info on the Web, or a better picture - has anyone else?

Some price info would be nice. Was toying with buying a 2004 Wolf Ridge/Attack Trail, so might have to spend a bit more....

As soon as we know more we'll let you know, Jez. No price yet...

Dear Santa:
A Whyte with Plus fours and lockable shock on the front. A single pivot on the back with lots of clearance sporting a Fox Triad type shock that is remotely adjustable. Chris King bits and egg beaters, Hope hubs on decent rims and some nice light discs that don't squeel all the time. XTR transmission with 2002 shifters...

and about 3" off my waistline so I can do it justice!
