I did the TransAlp this year and that was fantastic! The cape is being run by the same team of organisers. If the TransAlp is anything to go by, the cape is a must do experience for endurance riders.
I saw the transalp coverage on 422 Extreme Sports Channel, the one where Gary Fisher did it on the 29"er.

Just how much of a bad a$$ do you have to be to tackle something like that?

It was very hard, especially on day 4 a 147km stage in 38 degrees with one of the climbs being 30km long! The last 7km was so steep, we had to put the bikes on our back and hike up.
Still, it was such a good experience we will be doing it again next year.

Anyone thinking of having a go, make sure you prepare well. We trained for 7 months before hand and it wasn't enough! We finished 41st but we will be looking to do better next year.

Message from Neils girlfriend. We did this race in 2000. It was superb and extremely hard. I ended up being rushed to hospital with severe dehyration and exhaustion after just the second day. It was such a hard day 115km and two 2500metre climbs. We were not nearly prepared for such a grueling event. But I would do it again.
By the way 80 people gave up on that second day, I finished but at a price.
