...or does that Identiti freeride frame look remarkably like a hardcore Zaskar?
Show/hide user stats
You mean the fact that it's a sort of
triple-triangle design? (ignoring the square tubes, gussets, material, weight etc etc etc)

Sure, but isn't that like saying that all 'normal'-design hardtail frames are the same?

;)

There's definitely a resemblance. I rather like it. It's called the Mr Hyde FRX, by the way.

I'm sure GT have a patent on that triple triangle malarky

I always wanted a Zaskar 'dreams'

i want that pdc dh bike... it looks cheap therefore is less likely to get robbed.
Show/hide user stats
I've never wanted a Zaskar, they always seemed a bit too Halfordsy for me.

My Missus used to have a Zaskar back in the day when GT reigned supreme she loved it!!

Just to widen it a bit, what could actually be 'revolutionary' in bike design now? If we had a wish list for something really radical in terms of a new bike what might it be?

My first thoughts are all rather dull, lighter this, more compact that etc.

How about some real rule-breaking ideas. Can we get rid of chains in some way for instance and simplify gear changing?

Might be worth a thread on its own perhaps...

Bruce

I hear, there is a internal gear hub made in germany, cost £600 uggg, but supposed to work great and a 10year guarantee, wouldn't get rid of the chain, but would get rid of the front and rear mech's :)

If I had £600 spare, I'd have one for sure!!, way less cleaning and no broken mech's and mech hangers :)

Over than that, I think bikes are pretty much hitting there technology peaks, next revolution will be hover bikes, 1 inch to 20foot of suspension travel, fully adjustable. :)

Actually next 20years I expect Fuel Cell electric power assist bikes, seriously once the technology is made small and light enough. Battery's are just to heavy and likely always will be. ( read when I'm 50, I'm going to need this )

Check the new Giant bike, thats a rethink of biking for sure, fully enclosed belt drive maybe ??, will check one out if I see one in the UK ever, for road usage ofcourse, maybe a bit girlie though :(

That would be a Rohloff hub, Dylan. As seen masquerading as a gearbox in the middle of Nicolai and Evil bikes and the GT proto G-Box.

if it evolves away from human powered then IMO it is nolonger a MTB. A bike powered by a light weight electric cell is motorcycling.

remote control gears and brakes would be good.
Only refering to short term, get up that hill backup power, not full time running power :) although in 20years time we'll see hey.

Remote control, or fly by wire, ie no cables, to heavy to much to go wrong IMHO.

I need, automatic crash detection and about to do a stupid thing alert, where the brakes just lock on, and the bike says no fool ( when ever my downhill mate, Nigel is around, every bad fall has been cause of him going, go on you can jump that )

ABS for bikes?
dunno, if that would work, only works on cars in some cases, at other times we're better off without, depends on how good a driver you are really. ( these days, reflexs suck, I've got ABS ), a ran tests years back, with ABS on and off, same car, I could dry roads stop alot quicker with it off, but not the same as a real emergency, where ABS saved my butt once, forgot I had it, lorry turned right into a small invisible road, while I was over taking the lorry behind, 100++ started to skid I thought, I'm dead, ABS kicked in I stopped :)

Air bags upon impact :) thats what I need !!!

not really, alot they can do, before a bike stops being fun though really!!!

Not sure about this Pedal anti bob stuff at all, I must add !!!! rode a 5th element don't like !!!, wonder what the new Fox rear shocks are like ???

I'd like to see a move away from chains and mechs. It's about the only thing left on the bike that's more or less the same as it's always been. I'm surprised no-one's mass producing hydraulic/electric/remote shifters/mechs yet.
internal hub, like that new one, 11 speed or something, needs to be CVT though, so you can get a infinite amount of gears between it's extreme, and ofcourse Hydralic so no sticky cable crappola.

In time, it'll happen, Shimano where working on, a rear hydralic Mech I heard, years ago so ??

I've got an idea for a design where you set the cadence and prefered tourque and just pedal away all gear shifting is automatic.
Would only work for road bikes unfortunately. Just a few hicups with patents and stuff unfortunatly.
Show/hide user stats
Shimano have done the automatic stuff already. It's all preset cadences, though. Hydraulics was somebody else, Shimano have done pneumatic.

Someone tried ABS too, but it sucks on MTBs - sometimes you've just got to lock a wheel...

Continually Variable Transmission, has to be the way to go, there wouldn't be any clunk while changing gear, if it could be automated so your pedal turning speed was kepts at a level regardless of conditions that would be cool, but confusing.

Patents suck, someone sat down bought 1000's of patents and are just waiting for someone to really invent it, then they take a cut, why didn't I think of that :(

I like the idea of remote gears and brakes. It would remove all the cluttering cables from the frame, would be interesting.
