Great to see all the niceness from Gordon and chaps! (Still a bit sad that I turned away from a job there, as they're a really top bunch!)

So, with Sram doing such top stuff, and the whole group (Such as Avid and Truvativ) doing well, is it a further nail in the Shimano coffin that the stock of SRAM will come from such a great supplier? (Rather than Madison)

It'll allow b bit more even access to whatever flok want to buy for sure. Gotta be good. Hopefully will lead to a price war!

I wasn't aware that Shimano were really in a 'coffin'. I thought they were doing quite well for themselves.
Let's hope for interoperability. But it's a vain hope I fear. As SRAM become stronger, stuff is likely to become less interoperable than more so.

I'm finding myself drawn to the whole George/Mike axis.

Even if Shimano stopped producing cycle gear completely it would hardly impact the company as a whole. IIRC their fishing kit outsells cycle products 4 to 1 and that accounts for only about 20% of their business.

It's 75.1% bicycle stuff, 23.1% fishing tackle and 1.8% some mysterious "others" ;-)

Really? I must admit I was 'quoting' some figures that I read quite a while ago.

I vaguely remember the same article saying that the majority of Shimano's business was industrial robots, but perhaps that's just the medication working.

I think the mysterious "others" is golf products although they killed that part of their business off in October. IIRC at one point you could buy Ultegra golf clubs with titanium heads and carbon shafts.

That's as much as I know about golf and that's too much.

Shimano Annual report.

The "others" is "Cold Forged Products, Action Sports and Golf Products"

ie. metal lumps for cars, snowboard boots/bindings and golf clubs.

Shimano stuff is great, long live shimano. Almost everything shimano makes is either excellent or fantastic, so what sram do is by the way. I would buy sram stuff if the fancy took me but shimano chainsets and brakes are better than ever at the moment.

Fishers and madison both seem good any time i've spoken to either.

Charlie's trolling, don't get caught up in it.

must admit the new sram stuff is sweet and i do like the rapid fire shifters as well(steve peat uses em) these come in both shifting ratio's 1 to 1 ratio (sram)and 1 to 2 (shimano/standard) and the new rear sram mechs look sweet
