"If you are planning on going to Wales, make sure you detour past this trail . . "

Why? You want to keep it just for yourselves?

Nice try by the BM team eh Tommy

A group of us rode it back in January :) :)
The trail was still bedding down then and was sticky in places from all the rain but the final section once you enter the woods was a cracking ride (cracking was the word for one of our crew who cracked 3 ribs when he missed the narrow plank over the gully)
The video footage I took made you realise how steep the sides are if you miss the track, strange how you don't notice that at the time :o

Final comment from one of our group was "There are going to be a lot of broken bikes on here in summer when the trail is dry & fast" ;)
Broken, bodies more like, nice bikes, just bundle the owner down the bank, and ride away :)

Joking by the way!!!

The trail is so fab that we wanna save it all for ourselves - only joking ;)

The singletrack is bedding in nicely, only a little muddy in a few places. It was still riding fast though, especially the finale of the final descent.

While we were there some guy ripped his hand open from stacking over the bars on that dodgy plank of wood near the end - it needs attention or a warning sign or it'll catch a lot more people out

More of an ANTI-Cli-machx for all the hype I have read. Found the trials were very muddy and slippery, early single track didnt realy flow to many little bumps and jumps.the best bit being on the final descent from just entering the woods acouple of hundred yards from the one plank bridge onwards. A very short ride for somewhere so far from anywhere. if the trails and routs can be extended then it would become a lot better place to visit and revisit but until then i will stayaway. Sorry only 4/10

Hey dave, those little bumps and jumps are there to get airtime, increasing the 'flow'

Yes it is short, but if you plan a trip including the other (3) Mach trails, and maybe Nant y Arian, it isn't too bad.

And they are planning more trails in the area in the future for us to look forward to, so it's all good.

I was with Nige on that ride in Jan and even though the weather leading up to ride had been poor you could see the tracks potential.

I fully agree on signage for that one plank bridge, however on reflection it needs modifying rather signage simply because at speed in a group the first rider gets some chance to see it and prepare, rider two and backwards will not be so lucky. I got through ok because the faster guys were attending to rider two's injuries and I had to stop for them.

Apart from that is worth the drive and it will be great if its gets linked or extended.

Update from the ranger: Thanks for the comments guys. We would like to build more trail next year if we can get a grant. Please remember to check that the trail is open (which you can do on the website www.dyfimountainbiking.org.uk or with one of the bike shops in Machynlleth). This forest is also used for motorsports; next closure is 5th and 6th of June.

And if you arrive and it's closed, please don't shout at me like some nasty man did this weekend; we just don't want you hit by rally cars!

love, judith the ranger
