Mike - Can you comment of simularities / differents to Rocky Mountains ETS-X system? A quick glance says they are slightly different but working along the same idea?

Hang on...Trance full bike starts from £899 yet the frame is £799!

If you buy the frame at £799 you get the Fox float RP3 shock as fitted to the Trance 1, the other models make do with a Fox Float R. Still makes the Trance 3 look a good deal though.

I'd be interested to hear opinions on the benefit of a RP3 shock on this suspension system. Perhaps Mike could comment on that too?

France: No idea ;-) We flew to Marseilles, the hotel was in Arles, the riding was, um, 20-30 minutes away. It was nice, though ;-)

ETS-X: Haven't ridden one for a while, the only thing I can remember is a tendency to unfold under power. Better try one again ;-) On paper the Maestro's more linear through the stroke, the axle path is more vertical and there's less chain growth.

RP3: All the demo bikes had some sort of platformy shock, although Giant says it's not "entirely reliant" on such a thing. I was riding around with ProPedal on minimum or minimum pressure in the platform valves as appropriate and it was fine. If you're a really choppy/aggressive pedaller and like your out-of-the-saddle mashing you might want to run a bit of platform.

In the sense that it's got two short links rotating in the same direction, yes. It's similar in that way to several other things too. But they all do slightly different things.

Probably les Alpilles George. Nice in the Spring before it gets too hot and when the mountains are in the clouds.

The presentation was in the Cathédrale d'images mentioned on that site, so probably yes ;-)

I think on first impressions I'd give it a bit better than merely competent ;-)

Sounds rather fine.

Good 'all-mountain (sic)' beasties for say, enduros and maybe a little chairlift naughtiness in the Alps?

The Reign 3 looks fantastic value, same frame as the higher end models so ripe for upgrading later.
What about the position of the shock and mud, I read the article in WMTB a month or so ago which included pictures of the bottom bracket and the 'basket' that contains the shock mount.
Riding in the Peaks the position of the shock and the Peak cutting paste (mud) would worry me.

Any thoughts?

I don't think it'll be too bad - the actual shock shaft looks like it'll be shielded from the worst of the front wheel spray by the downtube. Otherwise a small piece of ice cream tub and some zipties could be gainfully employed ;-)

Well if the suspension system is anything like the Iron Horse then it'll be pretty damn good. I demoed an IH at Glentress yesterday and I was well impressed with the rear of the bike. The forks on the otherhand were well lets just say brand spanking new!

Anyway there I was in the Hub all set to order a RM Slayer, possibly a custom build, when Emma tells me that they will be getting a fleet of these Giants to demo in a few weeks time. DOHHHHHHH!

I guess that I'll have to wait until June when I'm down nest befor i order a new bike!
