So, looking at the new Zocchi range for '06, is it likely to be possible, say, to upgrade a pair of '05 66's with 150mm travel by changing to '06 lowers and whatever else you need to turn them into 170mm travel forks of the same or shorter ride height?

I have a pair of 150mm 66's on my G Spot, which I really like. Ideally I woudl have gone for 170mm, but I went for 150mm simply because of the tall ride height...

1" steerer but 80mm travel?

Can't help but think that's all but academic for most old bikes unless you run them with 30mm of sag or want that laid back canal barge steering feel.
New 66's are 25mm's Lower though so same if not slightly lower ride height.

Sounds like to much to go wrong and alot of expense Jervo you'd be better off E-baying them and buying the 06 most likely.

40mm lower actually, it's the 888s that are 25mm lower. Read the Article.
40mm's lower, eecckkks thats alot lower make 170mm on travel ride like a 130bike, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Or where they stupidly long to start with ??

stupidly long to start with, they had the same lowers as the 888's

Does anyone know if the AM forks are not going to be as tall as this year? It does say new crowns, so I've got my fingers crossed...

The countdown on the Marzocchi site is killing me - I need to know!

Dylan, the travel of the fork is not the rule of how tall the fork is.

Zocchi forks are notoriously longer than other makes, 170mm fork minus 40mm ride height doesn't equal the same height as a 130mm fox fork for instance. z150s have 150mmm travel and are shorter than the 150mm travel 66 forks is another example.

Have you tried your forks on the 170mm setting?

A friend did his and it made little difference to the ride height (according to him).

He now has the 170mm 66's on his Ellsworth I.D.

See what you mean - by the time you've taken sag into account it might just be 10mm or so difference.

Depends on the cost of the kit and the hassle I suppose
Easier selling on E-bay, getting £50 over RRP :) and buying another new 2006 set I'd still say, especially if you balls it up.

running the front tyre on the rims will also tighten your angles :)
