I have pipe insulation wrapped round my top tube on the pub bike so I can give my littlun lifts to school and back. About time a manufacturerr relised it's potential

BMC - British Motor Corporation or British Mountaineering Council. The Swiss one reminds me of a bike from Sheffield with a bit more fancy CNC. I like it.

Scott are still trying hard for 'the most unnecessarily complicated bike' at this years bike awards. 15 demo bikes, only one working? :ç)

Yesterday's Pugsley had an obvious use, today's Slingshot.........

Obviously the function of the bike is the most important thing, but there's no hiding the fact that the slingshot is ugly, ugly as sin.

whyte PRST or slingshot then???

i thought the slingshot died years ago, along with flexstems....

My dad used to do that. It was probably really dangerous, but it was a great way to get to school.

So now the Slingshot is back, how long before SoftRide beam bikes start making a comeback?
That 'dale looks remarkably like a Heckler/Superlight!!

I seriously thought that the slingshot, along with the old S-Bike (anyone remember those?), were the ugliest things on 2 wheels. Then the new slingshot comes along and smashes the last ounce of aesthetics out of the design. Disgraceful product and I can't see why you'd buy one.

I always quite liked the look of the softbeam bikes. Don't know why.

that softride thing is stonking!! is that a girvin/griven (???)stem too?
Show/hide user stats
No, it's the matching Softride stem Monkey. You could see the elastomers on the Girvin one. I've just put the old drive train back my 92 Giant, Grip shift X-rays really were horrors.

John Gourette,

Everyone is intituled to their opinion, and that's what is great about these forums.

I'm not sure how you can justify you comment regading "Scott trying hard for the most unecessarily complicted bike at this years bike awards".

The facts are from the Ransom launch the bike has been "The most photographed bike at all of the shows in Europe and the USA," The Ransom has been quoted by journalists around the world as "THE BIKE" of all the launch shows in Europe and the USA.

From a UK perspective the Ransom has far exceeded all forcasts, and production has been increased to meet higher demands.

At the US launch, the plan was to have a number of Ransom available for Journo's to ride and review. However Peter Denk and our product managers were not totally satisfied with the function of the pre-production shock. It was felt it better to have the bike 100% correct before releasing to the press. There were some minor tweeks needed to the internal valving of the shock before full production.

Remember, the shock is Scott's own design and brings many new functions for the rider. Everyone was very wary of the Genius shock 2 years ago when it was launched. Now 2 years down the line and journo's quote the Genius shock as the "smartest" and "best" shock on the market. Indeed, the Genius has been awarded by What Mountain Bike as "THE BIKE OF THE YEAR".

The Ransom takes the "All Mountain" sector to a new level that no other manufacturers have reached yet. A bike that is the lightest in it's class, brings more features than any other bike in it's class and yet is price competitive to anything else in it's class.

Obviously (Judging by the riding you do on your profile John) not the type of bike you ride.

Ian - let me borrow a ransom for a month or two and i'll give a completely *objective* review of the bike :p

lmao, at john getting told by scott!

i wouldn't mind one, but i do agree that there are simpler bikes out there doing the same job, and maybe better
Show/hide user stats
It's pretty simple really. It's just got a clever shock in it.

Said it before, and will say it again, well done Ian for being willing to come on here and put across his point of view.

None of the other manufacturers appear willing to do so, afraid maybe?

There's an importer here who's willing to shout his mouth off!

Duncan, you haven't heard me shout :-)

We do actually listen to customers both Scott owners and non owners.

Always happy to contribute.

PS, We will have Ransom Bikes available to test at a number of locations (The Hub at Glentress) for first production around January '06. Then you can judge for yourself how good they are.

"Duncan, you haven't heard me shout :-) "

It's the local radio DJ voice, Ian, cracks them up every time....
