I reckon Clarkson, because he lost out to the extreme climbers the other week and they need to make him look good.
After all, it's his show.
Will be good to see the "street" downhill stuff on main stream tv though.

lol would take a lot to make him look good. Agree with you totally, will be great to see biking getting some good coverage. Would like to see car vs bike on a 4x track sometime Im pretty sure Gee will win it :D
I agree with Ben. Clarkson is far too arrogant to lose out every time. Not exactly fair these races but goo TV all the same.
He has already had a mountain biker versus a specialy built of road race each other downhill on an early series, the bike won hands down everytime. should be good to watch though.
Thought, looking at the promo, James May was driving..
.. in which case - Athers. :-)
 With the sound off.
Anyone remember Warner racing against the clock on a Saracen v Malcolm Wilson in his rally Escort Cossie on You Bet!?
Warner only lost by 3 seconds.
I find top gear/clarkson highly entertaining, yeah he knobs on about all bikes being a menace but so what?
At least racing an Aston to the South of France is a realistic test of what a GT car should be about.
He got his ass properly whooped by the climbers though !
I think that climbing was the best bit of tv I've seen in a long time.
Wish I could climb like that. And it convinced me that I need to have a bash at jumping off/out of something with a bit of nylon sheet in a backpack.
"At least racing an Aston to the South of France is a realistic test of what a GT car should be about" - so flaunting the law in a foreign country is what driving an Aston is about.
Clarkson epitomises bragging, pompous, beer gutted moron behind the wheel of the cars that make riding a bike in the UK suicidal. I love his use of language and hate what he stands for.
Clarkson is great .. against almost all stand for but good stuff .. alternative opinions help shape your own.. and good for the show to be on high end vehicles and not a televised what car.. it's boys own.. I hope Gee does the biz.

Clarkson to me is Britains best Comedian and damn good entertainment , and this is coming from a man who rides Motorbikes and Mountain Bikes . I should detest the guy but i have to admit since this new format of Top Gear from the last few years has been on , I`m a fan of his ... you should read his book ... It` s hilarious .
Anyhooo , he might look good on TV after Hours and Hours of filming him on a track but I certainly don`t think he has the skills to Thrape a Clio around a small hilly town in time . Mr Atherton will be waiting for him at the bottom with arms folded .........Only to be put down by Clarkson with a silly but funny one liner . "NO NO NO , I`m not going to be beaten by someone that looks like he`s lost an engine from his bike" ... or similar .
I mostly agree with John Gourette. I hate everything about Clarkson and have to give myself a slap when I find his comments mildly amusing. He is though at the end of the day a total Tosspot, of that I am sure.
I would dearly love to punch his big face as hard as I have ever hit anything before.
 Turn ...the.....TV....off....then .
I do most of the time.
Fer feks sake, it isn't Clarkson driving! here!
If there's anything about France or bikes I can't resist.
I wouldn't mind if Top Gear was on ITV or Sky, but the BBC is public service propaganda, or should be. Inform and educate and all that.
 and er, entertain?
I have to say that I find it extremely entertaining that Top Gear use France as their personal race track.
If ever I get wind of their coming I'll be rolling rocks in true rally spectator style. :ç)
'Would like to see car vs bike on a 4x track sometime' i think 5th gear raced a mountain boarder down a mountain board 4X track, that was quite fun
