So, you've read the article, now's your time to ask one of the most experienced people in the MTB industry those questions that've been burning a hole in your pocket.

He'll be along in a bit, so you've got a bit of time to have a think. And please, keep the questions remotely serious...

What is his longest period without riding a bike. Surely with his life based so heavily around bikes, sometimes he just wants to get as far away from them as possible.

A bit like the cookie jar syndrome.

Is the old chap doing any Meridas again this year? Or any other events for that matter in the UK.

Hello Keith
1. Forgetting marketing pressures for the moment are you ever tempted to make a new Race / Race lite MTB making use of the latest steels and optimising the design around current products? I have wondered about how you would change the design of the rear stays to cope with a disk only design.

2. Bearing in mind the devolpments in riding and components if you made a new race /trail bike would you change the geometry or would you stick with the geometry of the last frames you produced?

3. If the temptation gets to much for you but Trek won't let you make a production run could you make me one? ( size large)

Thanks David

How intimate are you with Trek, or have you been tempted to start anew like Paul Turner?

Do you feel that being allied to a larger company "dilutes" what you want to achieve -compromise in the name of marketing?

Why does your low end kit you put on trek 6500 Suck, I've had to replace a few items ( headset, Seat Bolts rounding off, BB Noisy ) within days off having the bike seriously, bike is know Bottyrager free and staying that way.

( That'll piss him off )

Any hope of producing a good steel HT frame
(like the Privateer) with about 100/120mm fork correction??

Why are all the Big Earl components on my bike so nice? I don't want to replace any of it which is good.

Looking to attempt my 1st 24hr in the near future and been looking for some guidance on training schedules. Do you have any recomendations ?

About 6 months ago I saw some pictures of carbon-rimed Bontrager wheelsets in the Trek/VW pit. Any chance these will make it to production?

Does he think the 1 inch headset will comeback in to fashion in the next 10 years?

Have you ever heard a French(wo)man trying to pronounce your name?

"Bonrajair"
"Non, <Bontridger>"
"Bontrigger.
"Non, <Bontridger>"
"Bontrayjair"
"Non, <Bontridger>, tiens, essaie <Bonty>"
"Bonty"
"Ca y est!"
Anychance of doing your nice looking carbon Bar Ends ( ? for climbing ? right word ? ) Without BottyRager plastered all over them, cause well I'm not endorsing the Bottyrager brand.

thanks :)

Do you have any openings for a young but experienced mechanic at bontrager?
Any chance that you could use steel inserts on your Big Earl stem as the threads are like cheese.

Do you feel that there is anything truly innovative left to do in MTBing or have components and bikes developed to the point where advancement is just refinement?
Show/hide user stats
Refinement is going to be most of what happens in the near future as far as I can tell. Things have come along pretty far, and it is not as easy to come up with something that is very revolutionary.

My opinion might be due to the blinders I am wearing at the moment though. If I had the NEXT BIG IDEA in mind I'd be telling it differently.

Refinement of the existing off road stuff is not a bad thing. If you look at all of the possible ways to roll around int he woods on knobby tires these days, and the ways they could be made to ride a little better, or last longer, or whatever, there is a lot to do in that respect.

Cool...

Hes here.

:-)

Got any good rides planned this year Keith?
Show/hide user stats
Before I answer that, is there a way to post replies to each original posting in the forum?

Rides planned - yeah, though my year is starting late because I've had a lot of (real) work to do.

The big ones are a stage race in Portugal, the TransRockies, and the 24 Hour race in Moab. The rest of the year is organized around those.

Got any in mind that I should check out?
