James Dymond escapes a murky not-really-properly-spring-yet UK for the considerably warmer climes of Spain. And scares himself silly

Just wanted to further endorse Freeride Spain. Having been 3 times myself and most of my regular riding companions having been a great deal more than that I can confirm that it is indeed a blinding week away.

My particular fave's are the Tello and Granada rides as they are just so varied - particular Granada.

Anyone on hardtail should watch out on 'Wristbreaker' or 'Brutus for Men'. Wrists weren't the problem, taking the repeated rear impacts using your legs as suspension was. I had to stop at one point as my thighs had locked solid from the effort!

Must go back soon.

quote: Oh, and the "unrideable switchback" (only conquered by three people, I'm told).

If that's the top picture in the story then I'll unmodestly claim to be one of the three then. ;-)

Good pictures, makes me want to go back soon.

Haven't ridden with Freeride, but I'll happily vouch for the Spanish riding.

Fantastic!

Well said 4AssedMonkey, those trails kill the legs, hands were fine though!

And as for that switchback... git! ;-)
nope i dont think thats the switchback in the picture, the one james is on about is a very very dusy insanely steep tight bitch of a corner that drops to a stream below, the one in the picture is by spain standards only moderately hard.
Anyone, know the distance to get to any of these places, from the Fungerola ??

There next week, wasn't taking the bike but you be tempting me!!

I got back from a week with Freeride 3 weeks back and had a fantastic time. It was my introduction to mountain biking and after a week like that I'm wondering how i stuck with road riding for so long.
Definite 5/5

So your first attempt at MTBing was at Freeride Spain? Baptism of fire that Chris but glad you enjoyed it.

Yeah, very bloody forearms but learnt so much in one week. Loved it. On the return clapham common in the snow isn't really quite the same :(

Dylan.

Check out this address http://www.sierracycling.com/

Or http://www.seasonallyunadjusted.com/ Get the train from Fuengerola to Malaga and then up to Alora.

I will be in Fuegerola from 23rd Feb for 6days and hope/intend riding for a couple of days with sierra. Hire bikes are Kona HT or King fs. 15mins from my hotel. Wife has a stock of books!!

Jim @ seasonnay is a nice bloke. Had a day up there last year. Van assist to half way up a mountain, cycle some and then descend to tappas bar. Jim goes off for 1/2hr ride to get van. Ace.
