I think the cranks look nice, a touch of old school in there too.

Nice of them to choose a Giant Anthem to model it on too :o)

Didnt the Alivio chainset look very similar :-/

Doesnt make me think wow, like they should.

I agree. Not a fantastic wow factor, but more of a: "ooh they look solid" kind of appeal.

I don't really like the look, maybe its because everything shimano is annoying me right now. The front mechs look ugly, that x thing is nasty, think my xt looks nicer personally. All looks a bit basic, not a fan.

hmm, i'll pass

saint may keep me going in future though
I like it..., the front mechs any way, they look kinda sleak, the cranks I'm not so keen on, but atleast they havn't put that X on them...

I like to look of the derailleurs and cranks. I'd be interested to see what sort of a collar replaces the pinch bolts. The pinch bolts and the way doing them up to their recommended torque you felt full sure you'd strip the threads wasn't nice. No comment made on any changes made to improve the poor durability seen in many outboard bearing BB's.

The new XTR dual control hydraulic shifters are nasty looking though. I prefer the look of my XT's and the old XTR's. Maybe the photos don't do them justice, but they doo seem like ugly blocks with an X on top stuck on the handlebars.

Shimano Altus shifters from the mid to late 90's used the same principle for the gear shifting in having no escapement mechanism for shifts that release cable as XTR has brought back - Compagnolo road shifters have been doing this all along too.

Mechanically all they need to be is a thumbshifter type indexed drum with ratchets that pull it one or more clicks in each direction when you push the lever. They should be mechanically much simpler (And lighter) than Shimano's previous STI shifters. No fear of them being cheaper though.

Rumour has it that Shimano offer a 3 year warranty on all XTR parts too (Presumably not including consumables). That might make it worth the extra cash. XTR hubs are definitely worth it.

It looks quality but it doesn't give me a lobon. The rear mech has grown on me though.

I prefer my FSA cranks.
saw some earlier photos of the cranks and thought there were fugly, these on the other hand look pretty good.

anyone else think the crank arms are middleburn-esk?!

No lobon? can't be worth it

Well I think the cranks are the least ugly part of the whole groupset, but that wasn't hard...

So how hard wearing it really? Current XTR rings are made of chocolate. Got to be an improvement but how much of one?
Show/hide user stats
No more pinch bolts and standard 104 BCD rings. I can't think of a reason not to buy one when my BBUN 72/M737 chainset gives up the ghost. I like it.

Deore????? I thought you were an Alivio man!
Got nothing against Alivio.

Give me the choice for free, XTR or Alivio, Alivio pls.

Well that makes sense!

NOT!
except if I'm allowed to sell the XTR, ofcourse.
