Think it shows the original spirit of the sport though,going from place to place and being completely self-sufficient.

The leader's apparently bust his fork - he's getting a new one shipped to a shop somewhere ahead of him so he can fit it when he arrives :-)

Sounds like the early Tour de France and Eugene Christophe which is what you're referring to I think Roger. No dope tests on that event then.
