No guide book to the Lakes would be complete without at least a couple of Jeremy Ashcroft-style portage routes in it...

I'd be interested to know what they say are the 10 best climbs, descents and singletracks in the Lakes, see what I've missed. The free sample pdf route links together some great tracks.

When the review copy shows up, I'll let you know :-)

I pre-ordered mine and received it last Thursday.
Its well laid out, listing classic routes first then moving on to half day then Enduro/All day routes.
Its fair to say we have riddden the majority of areas in the guide but it will definitely open up some new routes and link up others that we know.

I will let you know some of the top 10's later on today Monty.

I have the South Dales and Dark Peak editions, they are the best MTB route guides to date IMO. Really well presented and as Simon says (hehe) all manner of distances and graded routes. Nice pics too.

How annoying, you have to buy the CD separately.

New trails, too; like the Pennine Bridleway, this kind of exposes the disinformation put out by the Green Lane Brigade that some unspecified 'They' are trying to curtail offroad cycling.

Had a quick look at it last night. A very good book. As saintly said, we have done most of the tracks but it had some eally good variations.

Another Good way to see the Lakes is Tim Woodcocks Lakeland Loop which we will be doing again in 2007.

I wrote a blog about it here:
http://lakeland-loop.blogspot.com/

It may have some different routes to the above book.

Ordered mine on Friday lunchtime and it arrived the next day!!! Well impressed. Some cracking looking routes which can be interlinked and seems to be a good start to exploring the lakes off-road.

Gibby, the book is just a bit smaller than A5 so will fit in a camelbak but it's reasonably thick so weighs a bit. Ordered the cd too for this reason.

Yep, the Lakes beckons on Saturday. Only problem is deciding which route to go on.
