do you have to race in 29er specific catagory or can you race in with the 26ers?

i only ask cos in dirt jumping there is often a 26 and 24" catagory. does the wheel size not provide advantages over your 26" competitors?

like the idea of a 29er, especially as a commuter bike, liking the salsa ones especially

The 26 / 29 debate is a long one and the pros and cons of each is well documented on the net. There are specific races for each type but in general, unless the race entry specifies otherwise, you can turn up on a 29 and race with 26ers and vise versa.
