I don't get long travel hardtails. What are they aimed at?
Show/hide user stats
I think its when 'you aimed' at something big in front of you, not so much falling down on to!
Show/hide user stats
They're aimed at lazy bastards like me, who want a fun and involving bike for technical terrain and can't be arsed faffing with/cleaning/maintaining rear suspension.

I like mine, but it's a bit more trailsy than that thing.
I to like long travel HT's, and hate short travel HT's.

2.5inches of rear suspension, sounds perfect to, just to take the edge off, aslong as it can run 140's on the front.

Nah - no suspension is best, especially with no gears!
Only if your a) super human b) NUTS c) Both.

Your C flap.

why thanks - I shall take that as a complement - but I assure you I am not super human!

I can understand short travel hardtails for racing or flowing stuff like Thetford. Lightweight and stiff for acceleration and sharp handling. But long travel hardtails just seem unbalanced to me.
Pauls, 456 with pace RC41 Fighter 150mm forks, rocks to be honest, don't really notice the lack of rear suspension on descents as long as your out of the seat.

"i was struck down (and still am) with a virus of some sort"

That old lead-swinging chestnut eh? I'm sure plenty of other MM attendees were off on the Monday with an, ahem, "virus" too.

Oh, and LT hardtails do make sense if you adapt your riding style a bit. Most people who I know who have them or have ridden them on technical stuff either (a) can see the point or, (b) fucking hate it.

You do need to 'ride the fork' a bit but the angles sort of push you in that direction anyway. If you get the hang of it, it's a real high cleaning a really rocky descent at full blast without any rear bounce to take the edge off. A very focussing and nerve-tingling experience. That's why I like it.

David, not the same one that's just put Liam Kileen out of action of the rest of the season, I hope?

4am, dave really was out of it at mayhem

however, funny you mention that after mayhem virus, i appear to have picked up something that stopped me doing anything for a few days :-P
