Oh how I want one of those. Although last time I admitted a hankering for a Rohloff'd Argon, I was told that was a solid gold choice of a bike for 'middle aged wankers'

middle aged.......check

"a funbike that provides the same delight as a full-suspension bike but with no need for bearing maintenance and fiddly cleaning jobs."

Obviously the bearing issue simply isn't an...uh...issue, but I find the statement about "same delight as a full-suspension bike" a little hard to swallow personally.

Nice looking bike though, with everything tucked away rather nicely...

Go on Kato, it's time you had a new bike.

I was looking at a Commençal until I read Pete's thread.

I shouldn't be too hard on Commencal, maybe they're just not up to scratch in their nanotechnology dept?

you've been on about the nicolai's for a good while now.
Petes is the first complaint ive read about commencal.

"nanotechnology" ROFL

I ride with a guy who has nothing but praise for Commencal. He and his daughter ride one (one susser and one HT). Both are very happy.

I'm currently banned from looking at anything to do with new bikes. She lost her sense of humour when I bought myself the Nikon.

I know, but my wallet protests too much

i know the feeling.

go on you know it makes sense :)

TBH, I can't see the attraction with the FR. It's basically a similar bike to a Cove Stiffee, which is tried and tested and cheaper. The drool worthy engineering is something to lust over but aside from that it seems over built, over engineered and over priced.

Just my opinion of course before the random collection of village idiots start slagging me off.

No I can see your point 4AM, but I fancy myself as a 'label mabel' ;-)

4AM, I wouldn't slag you off for that comment ;)

I wouldn't expect either of you to do so, always had you down as intelligent well balanced people. Unlike some....

I do have to admit to a mischievous sense of humour though.

Anyone else do a slight double-take when looking at the second photo down on the right? For a minute I thought a chunk of the headtube was missing!

Looks very nice and all that, but when there are comparable 'aggressive xc' frames like the On-One 456 out there for £150, £900 for a hardtail frame seems pretty silly money - even if it does have all the Rohloff gubbins built in.

I'm not sure you can call the On One comparable. I think you have to look at other boutique frames such as the Dekerf Implant.

By comparable I meant designed to be run with 130/150mm forks and take a bit of a beating.

I know what you mean though about the exclusiveness/high build quality etc, I suppose its just a standard prejudice I hold against expensive 'boutique' frames. Mainly because I can't afford one myself :(

Ah but at least you admit the real reason for your prejudice. Some would just slag it off without good reason.
