Turns out it was the Specialized guys stress testing the '07 Demo 7 because they "hadn't gotten around to it yet".

If I had a 2007 Demo 7, I might not be so keen on riding it any more.

Surely stress testing should be done a little earlier in the lifecycle of the product?

Superb pics as ever, Dan!

I had a similar thought Carlos. not a good advert for Specialized, unless that was the story they were sticking to just to keep the newshounds at bay.

Great photos though.

How many bike manufacturers even bother to wire up bikes with strain gauges do you think?

I would think that they are probably doing it for development of next year's model, rather than checking that the 07 model isn't going to break, or checking that their FEA methods are valid.

I'd speculate wildly that they were having a little bit of a joke :-) Good opportunity to gather some "real world" data that they can then feed into their (actually quite scary) testing machines to simulate the same loads on new bikes, I'd have thought.

I've loved this series, for both the snaps, (boy, I'm sure Dan will love that description of his work) and the write ups.

Please pay him lots of money to do it again in the near future Mike.

Thanks to everyone who's commented over the course of my coverage, it made my descent into sleep-walking madness much more bearable :-)

With regards the Specialized testing, yep, I'm pretty sure they were joking around, those cheeky chappies.
