Well, well, who'd a thunk it? Just before the Olympics, China suddenly gets good at mountain biking. I'm sure she was delighted, but just didn't look it when crossing the line. Probably not, as she'll now have to go back to the intensive training camp and drugs. Does anyone really believe Chinese athletes are clean? Especially when they suddenly start cropping up with good results just before the Olympics?

"Wee-doe-ping and yay-wee-won take the gold for China" Looks like the Chinese will be taking away sweet and sour memories from these Rome olympics
Sorry couldnt help that, only a few people will know what I'm spouting on about Ha, what a surprise. They're the new East Germany!!

No comment on the possibility of doping (I tend to agree) but MTBing is actually quite a popular cult sport here. I just bought the wheels for my commuter bike today (20 quid!) from a little enthusiasts' shop - should finish building it tomorrow. All the shops tend to have clubs linked to them; one guy at this shop's club has a Blur that cost him 40,000 rmb (2600 quid). To put that in perspective, my girlfriend's rather nice three bedroom flat cost 200,000 rmb last year. I've been invited out on a club ride - I'm quite tempted, if only to see how good they are.

Quite funny though, communist country start doing well - due to drugs and training regime. US of A no-one says a word!! As someone in my cycling club says, your not necessarily the best rider to win the tour, just the one with the best doctor.
