A 24 hour race where people couldn't race the full 24 hours. Nice.

Seriously, how long have they been running this race now? You'd think they'd have the 'must have weatherproof course' bit figured out.

Perhaps I expect too much.

We canned it when lying sixth in the men's pairs simple because there was absolutely no pleasure in the event at all. After doing Mayhem and HTN in similar quagmire conditions, I simply lost the will to live and had something of an existential crisis out on the course

I've done all the Eastnor Mayhems - one dry in five - and, I think, all the Catton Park SITS events, erm, one perfect - 2007 - and one goodish, erm, 2005. Don't get me wrong, Pat Adams runs brilliant events in organisational terms, but in the end, both venues fall to pieces in the rain - that's geology for you. In the end, I guess you take your chances in the meteorological lottery.

Based on the events I've done over the last few years, your chances of getting a dry event are pretty low - let's see, approximately one in four based on SITS, Mayhem, two 24/12s and this year's inaugural HTN. There you go. One in four dry, you pays your money...

Sooooo, single speed with mud tyres then?

LOL, I was actually riding a singlespeed with mud tyres. If only I'd had 1.5s

The lad (and his mate) at my LBS won the men's pairs, I was well impressed. He reckons they only won cos they had a jetwash

Weather proof cycle track = tarmac, concrete or stone.

No it doesn't Mike. Sorry. Newnham is what most would consider a weatherproof track and that's not tarmac or stone.

He's from down south. Plenty of weatherproof trails up here, it's the old case of not being able to race on bridleways though isn't it?

Has it been used for a 24hr?

Who wants to race on Bridelways?  There's an awful lot of things to consider when you're trying to find a 24hr course.

Because the bridleways up here are amazing XC trails you poop!

FFS what do you ride down there?

Anything I can

Newnham just played host to the 24/12 and Keith & Martyn are keen to keep it here for the future events as well. Not bridleways, all private land. If it was god enough for the Grundigs then it's good enough for the Enduro Monkey types

Oh right. You spelt bridleways wrong btw.

You too IWH, get a grip of your spelling.

should have done Bontrager 24/12. Fantastic trails, dry and lots of dust! thrilling singletrack, even the climbing was fun. Top stuff. That's my even top tip for 2009

It's weatherproof then?
Show/hide user stats
the tarmac main climb certainly would be, and most of the singletrack has proven to be rideable at previous events

Groovy.

Do they get entries as big as MM and SITS though?
