How can you not take pity on a stranded rider. I'd always like to think that if ever I was in that position then someone would do the same for me. It does make you think about carrying 2 tubes though. Especially if you run 'tubeless'.

I carry 2 tubes, as well as a Park instant patch kit (Which make great frame protector stickers too!)

How many times have we all stopped to help out. It's the decent thing to do!

I do carry two tubes ever since I burst one and the replacement also had a hole in it. Way up the hills. The bad thing was it was a beautiful sunny day. The really bad thing was having to phone me mum to come get me... :(
i carry 4 tubes, two packs of instants patches and three tyre levers.

trust me when i say you have never seen anyone get more punchtures then julia, i don`t know how she does it.

I did that to my valve once, when I was new to presta and was a bit rough on it, the way I'd treat a schraeder valve. Fortunately I was topping up the pressure pre-ride so wasn't really stranded

Serge, are you running her at the right pressure?

I only carry one tube and a repair kit. But I'd give my spare tube away if needed.

I'm quite capapble of patching a tyre mid ride if necessary afterwards.
yes she just has a habit of running over big thorns, i don`t know where she finds them.
she is riding with hutchinson aligator kevlar tyres, a free ride trye and is huge. has the right size tubes and every ride she has had a puncture or some sort of flat.

Oh, you mean her tyres!

My riding buddy on Saturday got a puncture which required my spare inner tube. Of course, within one minute of him getting the puncture the heavens opened and we had to change the tube during the heaviest shower we saw that day.

This article is a handy reminder to me that I've still got his punctured tube in my saddle pack and I should replace it with a working tube before my next ride...

I made a profit from being the good Samaritan once. Came across a guy with a brand new Trek Liquid looking somewhat bewildered at his flat tyre (presumably, the bike shop didn't warn him that even expensive bikes get flats). I gave him my spare tube. Met him again on the same trail two weeks later and he stopped and insisted on giving me 20 quid!

Mind you, I don't think he was short of cash... weeks later I saw him again with a flat by the side of the road. This time he was dismantling his bike to put it into the back of a Porsche 911 driven by a tasty looking blonde. Wish I has someone like that to pick me up when I break down!
Sounds like you want to stalk him, identify his favourite trails, arm yourself with a bin bag of hawthorn clippings and set up a little stall ....
on the other end of the scale though, isn't it annoying when out on a ride with 6-12 riders and you are the only one with a decent multitool!!!!

i feel fine about helping total strangers out, but now grumble all the time to my mates for being so vacant as to not carry spares/tools!

My mate did have spare inner tubes, it's just they were 1.3" tubes for the commuting slicks that his bike had on until half an hour before we started the ride.

This same riding buddy got a pair of LX rapidfire+ shifters from some guy he helped who'd just injured themself in a crash once.

My best Samaritan story was at the start of a ride I stripped the threads on my wheel skewer and couldn't fit the front wheel. Some guys were leaving and I asked if any one had a spare skewer. This guy took off his XTR skewer and just gave it to me! Tried to pay but he wouldn't take it. Thanks whoever you were... Any better trades out there...
I made the mistake of being a good samaritan on my first trip to Snowdon. I started my descent with two spare tubes, a toolkit and patches.
I stopped three times on the way do to distribute equipment to stranded memebrs of our group.
Then I flatted.
By which time all my tubes and patches were gone, and my tools and pump spread between 3 other riders.......

I always take 2 tubes but have even got through both of them on occasions.

There's an easy fix-all solution - DUCK TAPE. Roll a big length of it round the shaft of your pump & leave it there. You can use it to fix as many punctures, ripped tubes, ripped tyres or whatever you want.

Do it tonight - you never know when you'll be needing it.

My favourite 'good samaritan' is when cycling with my brother and fiancee along the South bank...

...we came across a bewildered family, the dad's headset was way too loose and he was having toruble steering, luckily I had an old 36mm headset wrench on me (his headset was the 1" variety) I fettled his bike and sent them on their way, well chuffed that someone had stopped to help them...they said that a group of cyclists had just ridden past a short time ago and offered nothing, not even a 'hello'

...but my mum did have to come and pick me up once, about 20 miles from home. I'd gone through two spare tubes and two patch kits and had about 90p in change on me

:P
