Do they really feel very stable when not clipped inm with dstiff soled shoes?
I had some Time Z Freerides for a while and they were awful if you weren't clipped in which kinda defeated the object of having a platform. Now I just don't unclip often from my ATACs

i've had a pair of candy's for a year now and i wouldn't say they're that stable when you're not clipped in. great when you are, just not so great when you're not! i've just got a pair of mallets and imo they're much more of an "all mountain" pedal than the candys...

Oooh, goodie. A pedal thread. My commuting bike is an old unbranded wreck.

Over the past weeks the cheap plastic platform pedals were literally falling apart. Last night all that was left on the left pedal was the axle (shaft? What's it called?)

So, fitted a new pair and fair shot into work this morning. My performance was obviously deteriorating a little each day as my feet were positioned incorrectly.

Bung on new ones and I'm so noticably quicker.

Oh I like my Z freerides, when not clipped in
I rode a lap of Derwent on my Z freerides in trainers, when I forgot my shoes, was poo, the platform just provides support if you are not using particually stiff shoes IME.

Yes. All that.

Stiff soled shoes are no good on any pedal if you aren't clipped in. You need to be able to feel the pedal to know where you are on it.
But a softer sole defeats the object of using SPD type pedals surely

Don't call us Shirly.

I still use flats with straps.

But then i would.

not being clipped in defeats the object of using spd type pedals Shirley.

I don't use Spd type pedals!

I have mallets, im a wimp, when the going gets tough i unclip, shift my foot a bit and feel safe with platforms ;-)

Rare bearing problem?

Pah!
Legbeaters are always falling apart.

not true starterman. Eggbeaters are very reliable.

my 2002 set still going strong with only one bushing change. Bearing was still fine, but i put the new one in as it came with the set.

Sample size of 1 doesn't prove anything. I've seen this happen 3 times out of about 10 sets.

I've got the old style Shimano 636DX downhill spuds and they're well good. The forerunner of most platform spuds......

so, Sample opinion of one doesn't matter. i think we may have to agree to dis-agree.

But for anyone else, Eggbeaters are very reliable and do not fall apart. Crank Bros ahve an excellent warranty anyway. not that you'll need it
