Good article that, i didn't expect them to start by just modifying an xt crank!

is it just me or is the middel xtr mech by far the nicest of the three
love the R in added in felt tip, class touch!
i quite like the first xtr mech, it looks satisfying in a "i dare you to break me" kinda way :-P
Mike - you would love my late 90's XTR cranks which are on my SC Bullit - functional, strong as f*ck and very slim :-)
would go great with that mech :-)
 great article too btw :-)

Why are the rear mech pictures not showing with Firefox?? Hate using IE! :( Thanks for the article.

Ooh, that's a bit odd. Works for me. I'll have a poke around...
I wouldn't call the M950 XTR cranks slim Matt, although they were very tarty!
The early 90s polished ones were a slim design, is your bike older than you remember!? :-)
Thanks for that Mike. I love stuff like this.
just wish they'd get the stuff in the shops - I'm still waiting for my chainset and front mech from crc. No shops seem to have got these in yet!.......
I rode it on a complete bike the other day, SO nice! The downshift particularly is so smooth, not that you're getting shifters, but you should!
Why are you getting a front mech? If you're in a hurry just use the current one, it's not really changing that much, bit more machining.
It's not due into the UK until 20th December, sure CRC will source it elsewhere before then though.
It's a new build bike that's only half built at present! Have got the shifters but haven't done any shifting yet! Can't beleive I'll have to wait until 20 December for the chainset though - you could be right about crc getting it quicker.
It may not function or look much different but if you've set your mind on the new mech you may as well go for it, especially on a new build. Mike, still not working. Think you need to poke around a little more ;-)

Good article - found this 2 part one a while ago after seeing Shimano's website announcing xtr range was being released 1/10/06 lucky b****rd

Sprokitt, which Firefox is that? I'm using FF here and I can see everything. Anyone else missing a bit of the article off the bottom?
FF here as well, i can see it all
perhaps he's got a few too many plugins :-P
LOL, why is it just those 3 pics? If I was running a dodgy plugin the other images wouldn't display either.
Mike D, FF 1.5.0.7 and 1.5.0.8 do not show the images here. The second screencap was using 1.5.0.8. All scripting and cookies are enabled.
Just tried with FF2.0 and they're still being ommitted ...
Now trying with the blocking extensions disabled ... nope, not solved.
Now with all Bikemagic references deleted from Adblock ... no, still the same..

Nick the cranks are slim and polished, and non-compact - bought em second hand after killing several LX cranks that were quite frankly made of cheese - the pedals kept pulling the thread out on drop-offs etc...
I have no idea how old they really are or what the code was...
they are lovely though :-)
PS I think I meant late 80's early '90s
