erm, it's a load of football pitches, a running track and a dry ski slope, i'm not enirely sure how they're gonna hold it there, unless they use lordswood which i've been informed can't be used for public events?
ok, the laps are only 2.7km, they must have to do loads!
anyone coming to see it?
Nah, riding the SPAM Event instead!
I went and it was good racing (or bog snorkeling as the case may be). Was a little damp. Seniors photos here:

It's cyclocross, Mike, lots and lots of short laps is how it works :-)
Would also explain why there were so few crossers at the SPAM yesterday!
Cross racers != cross bike owners, though ;-)

Nice bike!
Looks a bit muddy there!!!!

I certainly was, Mike, I certainly was!
:-)
Flap - just a bit difficult to tell under the slime, but yes, very.
Anyone know how this sport came about? Just seems a bit odd to be riding a road bike off the road... or is it just me?
Must have been quite interesting watching those skinny tyred steeds handle in that mud bath.
Hmmm probably better grip than i had last night on my intenses though :S was all over the place, least those things can cut through the mud.

Dave CycloX has been around for many years - before mountain bikes became big certainly - used to be a way for the roadies to train during winter I believe.
Looks fun actually, would like to try myself.
Normally done over small loops in parks etc, can involve carrying the bike a lot as well.
Ah right... looks a right laugh.
Erm surely cycling on the roads the easyest way to train during the winter? Just a thought, thanks for the info :)

That looks real hard work "a clean cyclo-cross bike can weigh in excess of 10kg less than a muddy one!" I can well believe that.
Added to the list of things i want to try...
Which is why you have a helper in the pits with a 2nd bike and a jetwash. allowing constant swapping of bikes throughout the race.
It did look really hard work - these guys are normally very fast and in some bits they were tip-toeing through some very, very slippery bits and those bits they could ride were just a slog. I was glad to be watching and not racing!
