I used to go to Aberystwyth Uni so this little ride was just up the road. In fact a few times I rode the 10 miles to the trail head, did the medium length ride, and rode back home again. Usually with blood on my knees\face\elbows.

Only since leaving the uni have I had the need to drive 300 miles to do the longer loop. Combining uni reunions and 35km rides makes for a fantastic weekend - even if the following week's work suffers.

The course is reasonably long with harsh ups and fast downs. I would recommend a well serviced bike (preferably with discs given the weather conditions) and some big balls to make the most of it.

The term 'pacing yourself' has never been quite so apt. About 20% of the best stuff is within the last 8km of the longer loop and stong legs are required.

Take snacks, a riding partner and a hyrapack of some description.

The best thing about this ride is that it's long enough to forget the layout of the fast downhills - each run requires a fair amount of bravery/stupidity.

Did this a couple of years back - thought I was going to die of hyperthermia!!

Quite away from C-Y-B, think you have to go down the coast road to Aberystwyth then cut back in land.

Most places in Wales are at least an hours drive away.

About 1hr 40min

Well worth doing especially if you like the feeling of being literally in the middle of nowhere. :)

Good trail, if you do the longest route, some good natural rock track descending, abit quicker for me to get to that CyB, but not as technical which suites me at times.

Always seemed like NyA was closer for me but I've just worked it out to be 2 miles further.
