I have ordered myself a nice new Sub-5 frameset and am transfering all my kit over from my Zaskar. I have enough LX spares to kit my relegated Zaskar out. However, I need to purchase some forks and I have decided to go back to rigid ones and cannot decide to go for Pace RC31's or Kona Project 2.
What are peoples experiences/opinions of these forks?
my mate has some P2's and they are very very stiff, he managed to get then 5th hand, from a trials rider and they are still in perfect contition, even after 8 foot drops, and general abuse. on saying that i don't like them as i'm used to 5" travel, but if you like rigids they seem to be pretty good.

I have had several pairs of P2s on various bikes they seem fine and I have never
had a problem with them. I am currently looking for a pair of rigid forks with a
disc mounts and considered the RC31s but there was a post by Brant who
suggested (i think) there may be a reliability problem so at the moment I am
undecided. I like the look of the Pace forks but I have seen the P2s for £40 which
way to jump?
Armstrong Bikedock are knocking P2s out at 40 quid.

RC31s are quite the pimpiest rigids you'll find but go for about 170. Do you need a disc mount? What would you do with the 130 quid you'd saved?
Given that the RC31s cost 4 times as much as the P2s, for no huge functional improvement, so unless you need a disc mount I'd get the Konas.
Must admit 170 sheets for rigid is taking the piss a bit, I would plump for the P2's.

Or you could get the Orange F8 forks for £55, ( running these on my Marin ) these have got the brake bosses mounted on the rear ala old style pace forks.

Hope the Sub 5's keeping you happy.

looks like the arguement was pretty much over a year ago but i've just written to kona and as of spring this year you will be able to by the not so beefy, triple butted P2's with disc mounts as seen on the '03 Dr. Drew on the www.konaworld.com website.
Now how helpful am i eh?

those p2s on the dr. dew are for 700c wheels. i saw some in my lbs whilst swapping my p2s that came with my Unit for RC31s. The disc p2s are shorter and skinnier, poss not up to off roading.

btw, rc31s are lovely: super lightweight and the carbon flexs so some bump absorption with only 700g weight! plus they look spangly

kona produce p2 jump forks with disc mount, £49 from www.dreamcycles.co.uk problem solved. (page 202 of mbuk)

I bought 2003 RC31s in January and theyre the business, I've ridden P2 forks on my mates Kona since and theyre a harsher ride. The carbon in the RC31s noticeably softens the ride. Just did polaris in the IOM last weekend on them and had no problems whatsoever. RC31s are pricey but are featherweight, look gorgeous, and handle better than any other rigid fork on the market. Go on... buy British... you know it makes sense...

wot about the maxlight forks, £75, they've gotta disc mount and there 45 grams lighter than the RC 31, just not quite so pimpy
