I'm looking at upgrading my chainset, as when looking at it it's a bunch of bollocks on it at the moment...Truvativ isoflow it think.
Anyway...I was looking at Race Face XC's
Then I noticed they were ISIS so i'll need a new BB anyway.
However, it states it must be a 108mm not 113mm BB.
Got the tape meaure out and my BB shell is 68mm and a fairly standard 113mm BB.
Will it fit?
And is there anything else I should get instead.
the Race Faces were £49.99 and an FSA BB would be about £24.99
So my budget is about £80 (either square taper or Isis but I'd need to include a BB)

Yes it'll fit. Your frame has a 68 shell the axle length depends on the chainset
However at 80 quid i'd be buying Shimano LX HT2. You can't buy a cheap BB if you're running ISIS as it'll be junk in no time. The cheapest ISIS bb i'd recommend is an SKF BXC300 at £40

 HONE...
or LX hollow tech II as kato says they are both almost identical in the 3 ring set up
ISIS is cr@p it wont last long..
broken evolve xc's laying in my garage say go shimano ht2!
I've got the LX HTII cranks and not had a problem with them yet (touch wood). I have not experienced any of the BB problems that other riders complain about and i do ride it in the peaks thru winter so i'd expect it to give up there if its going to go anywhere.
I like my evolve. The race face cups didn't last very long at all though. Now using hollowtech ones.
LX HT II's - can't fault 'em for the price.
Incidentally, MGO (Male Green Offspring) has Truvativ Holsummatorother chainset on his M'goose jump bike with an Is*S BB...............are you sat down?......this bike has had some real hammer dealt to it, the little sod only cleans and lubes it when I shout at him and the BB has lasted 18mnths and is still going strong!! Is this a record for an IS*S??

i discovered a way to rip apart an old truvativ isis bb, the bearings were shot, but i just stuffed it full of anything i could find
it vaguely spins, and now holds an old set of firex's on my road bike
no play as yet, which is rather amazing considering i really did just stick anything i could find in it!
So, Mike, you shove some noodles, a set of dress makers pins and a 3 legged Yorkshire Terrier into an old Truvativ BB and it still works? Amazing!
;¬)
ha ha, minus the livestock and you're not too far from the truth :-P
nah, t'was grease and some random bearings i found in the garage
it was really just tightening up the whole lot, then sticking a washer in there for good measure that did it
 Nice one.
i do expect it to fail quite catastrophically when it does, unlike before, it just had lots of play and had resistance to spin, i'm expecting this to do something impressive!
Like seize completely just as you're reaching 110rpm! (Ouch!)?
Yeah I was thinking about the LX or XT cranks...swore I saw some LX on square taper on CRC but can't find any that aren't splined...maybe I'm just not looking ahrd enough.
Which one have the rings that are like butter?
I do have a set of the Evolve XC cranks on my SS and although i'm not sure how much longer the RaceFace BB will last, the cranks are spot on.
"ISIS is cr@p it wont last long.."
IMO, you bought a shit BB IME, RF Signature and SKF's both have outlived Shimano HT2 BB's in friends bikes
 Kata I haven't bought a BB yet...
This is what I'm asking!
Stick with square taper, Maybe I don't ride hard enough but I've never rounded a MTB BB only BMX.
So do I go for Isis, octalink or stick with square taper, and what rings will last longest?
I've just recieved some shiny new XT cranks & BB, just thought you'd like to know.
ime sq taper is still the way to go (for normal riding). LX and BETD HT2 bearings lasted hardly any time, and ISIS really isn't worth it, unless you go SKF.
all 4 of my bikes have sq taper now, after ISIS and HT2
I as I suspected...Is it just me or can i not find any square taper cranksets on CRC?
