Orange p7
Good for XC?

I am unsure whether this is the right buy for me, I ride mostly XC - living in Denmark - not many hills here. My present bike is an older Gary Fisher Super Caliber. Wighs about 8,5kg. I am worried that the Orange weight will spoil my riding. I am only 70kg. The steel frame and spec is great, writeups good - but is it the right bike for long distance WC / failry flat singletrack?

The P7 would be awesome for long distance singletrack!

The rigidity of the steel frame would put some much needed twang back into your "fairly flat" riding!

Buy it, ride it and enjoy it!!!

yes, but i think the evo8 would suit your terrain better, its a fast bike and its sounds like you dont need the extra travel of the p7.

Too right.

The amount of people on 6" FS bikes that I overtook doing the Dyfi Enduro at the weekend on my HT like they were standing still was untrue.....

It will be an awesome bike, and more than enough if you also want to venture onto something a little more hardcore from time to time. However, if you think that you will definitely stick to thelong distance WC / failry flat singletrack, then as CGD mentioned, the evo8 might be a better bet as it is an all over more speed orientated offering from Orange.

I had an old evo2 (till it was stolen) and loved every bit of it. I'm currently considering building up a p7 singlespeeder and think both bikes are absolutely great

I think the new P7 is not like the old P7. More of jump bike than the old XC bike

Current P7 is designed around 130mm forks, but is essentially a trail/XC bike.

There are stacks of good hardtails around at the moment and if you don't need 130mm forks on it, then the choice with a 100mm fork is plenty.

I agree - it's all a bit chunky looking with bit gussets and welds - and I'm not keen on the sliding dropouts either. However Orange are doing an excellent deal on the P7 Pro and there are loads of upgrade options available for a great price. I bought one, moved the bits on to a Cotic frame and Ebay'd the P7 frame - SORTED!

Just sold my full sus frame to return to a HT. Trying steel next with a P7. I found I was leaving the full sus in the garage and riding my old HT all the time.  Building the P7 with 120mm forks to start with, if i want then I can increas the travel on the forks to 130mm. (Fox Float R's)
