so yes looking like thurs from the Princess Rawdon, map as per Johns link, anyone new also note the carpark is on the other side of the road from the pub. 7:30 as usual.
Like John and Jules, did my bit for National Bike Week and rode home from work (Huddersfield) to Wilsden.
18 miles, a third was off road and it took me 2 hours. Obviously took longer than the car but a pleasant change from sitting in the queues of traffic!!
Clare and Rich both did really well as soloists, i'll surely let them fill in the details on a very challening 24 hours. i think, note think, rich called it a day after 9 laps, might have started too fast after an early puncture possibly, and i think clare kept going to finish on 10 laps, which i reckon deserves every plaudit we can throw at her. superb effort, really pleased for her. although as is the way at this event, i didn't see any other north leeds actually out on the course (although i did see badger re-cabling his epic just before his first lap! ffs! )
not sure what the team laps were, but the Kev Kitch/badger guys were going well, and i believe julie and the menstrual cycles womens team were having a good ride too. look forward to hearing about their rides.
our mixed team had an early disaster when kirsty was taken poorly friday night. so me and our friends tried to do it as a 4 with kirsty maybe coming in late for a couple of laps to validate the team- no chance she was feeling and looking far too rough. we ploughed on to 12 laps by the middle of the night when the conditions turned to total shit and we sacked it off for the night. knocked out o few more laps in the drier morning, but we'd had enough.
course wasn't brilliant, it struggled in the rain really quite badly, but remained fun on the sunday. top effort by all, especially the soloists!
tired now, but not as tired as some i would guess!
how was the wind? howling a gale here, branches down all over the place, including one in Guiseley that made a bit of a mess of a passing car and its occupants; fingers crossed nothing too serious.
Sounds like Mayhem was tough then, the summer weather was just as bad in Baildon on saturday for a kids football tournament I was coaching at, wind, rain, mist, cold, just really grim. Glad I wasn't camping in it. Boys did good though, only beaten in the final on penalties.
Last week I did say I might lead tuesday but I can't now. Hopefully next week, probably out Haworth way, tbc.
