Lumicycle gear is great and the after sales service is fantastic. A single 20w halogen unit and 'middle' (4Ah I think) Li-ion battery will be enough. Get the twin lead battery so you can buy another lamp unit and run a twin lamp setup in winter.
Led lights have become the number one choice because they're finally powerful enough for 'proper' night riding, plus they use very little power so batteries are lighter & cheaper and they're much harder to damage compared to a halogen or HID bulb.
The cheaper option is to buy a torch from www.dealextreme.com like the Trustfire 801, and find a bracket to helmet mount it. The torch, 2 batteries and charger cost £35 posted, although that was pre sterling collapse.
The best 2 leds are probably the Hope 4 led and the USE Maxx-D but you're looking £200+
I have the 801 torch and a Maxx-D, which you're welcome to borrow and try out.

Thanks for Dalby ride on Sunday guys. Still removing sand from small parts in bike, clothes and body! that was one filthy ride. Flowing singletrack, berms and scary bumpy descents were the highlight for me. I'm proud of my 'black' successes. My aching body is a testament to the pace and trail! good times.
